Markbass LMII fan noise

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks,
I have a 2 yr old Markbass LMII that has developed (overtime) a fairly noisy fan. Is this a problem? Do the fans eventually die or is common. It sounds kind of "sick"..meaning not a smooth consistent sound. Anyone with experience with 2-3 yr old LM II's?

I do not have a LM II, but seeing as how these fans are basically the same as those used to cool computers, they will get crud/dust on them, and the bearings can start to wear out, and so the noise they produce can/will increase. It's not totally unexpected.

Good news is that it's a real easy fix. Just take a look at the fan specs (should be right on the fan itself .. in the manual, or even on the Markbass website) and get a replacement fan of the same size (probably going to be either 80mm or 92mm) and similar CFM (cubic feet per meter) specs, and replace it. Typically these are just 2 wire connected.

good luck

Check these photos I made when I got my LMII:

This strikes me as odd

well here's one example of where you can find one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ling-_-NA-_-NA

I did not see a solo 60mm fan, but you can buy the cheapest one with the heatsink, and unscrew it from the heatsink and use that to replace the one in your LM II.

Also, any decent computer electronics shop that sold components would probably have one too.

good luck

I've had my LMII for over 3 years now, gigging hundreds of times with it. The fan is still dead silent and I check every once in a while to make sure it's still working. I can't express how impressed I am with these little amps.
