Markbass mini CMD121P & CMD151P Combos

I bought a Markbass CMD151P a few months ago, and wow, I am really amazed by this small cube. It does not lack anything. Sounds great, loud, light, easy to transport. The ONLY thing I found so far that might be considered a negative, is that with basses (My basses are all jazz basses) that have older strings, the definition is not as good, as to where my Bergantino cabs still make the bass sound right, even with older strings. But let's face it, it's a miniscule detail for such an amazing amp.

I had the intention of eventually, at some point, get a CMD121P as a rehearsal, jam, small gig kit. If It's half as good as the 151, I would be quite happy.

Turns out a few days ago, a fellow TBer had one for sale and the price was right, so I bought it. Thanks buddy.

The 121P sounds very good, but it needs a bit of a eq tweak to increase the bass, and it's harsher in the high mids than the 151, but another eq tweak there solves 90% of it. Practice, it is perfect. Takes very little room, and sounds great. I will take it regularly on jams & rehearsals, but not quite sure I'd use it on a gig. It does have enough power for small gigs, but the 151 is so much richer, why would I ?. And for bigger gigs, not really enough on it's own. I A-B'd the volume increase of both. From zero to about 1/3rd up on the master volume control, they were pretty close, but past that, the 151 kept increasing, as to where the 121 went almost into a 2:1 ratio of increase. At 50%, the 151 was MUCH louder than the 121.

Both amazing combos, but the CMD151P will do anything, as to where the 121 could have limitations. Of course, I play rock, top 40, etc....., an acoustic band, jazz, even blues might be a good choice for the 121.

Thumbs up for Markbass

I find that Markbass tends to be very transparent. Meaning, if your bass has dead strings, it's going to sound dead. It's one of the things I like about Markbass gear. It lets you hear the bass.

Tweak on the VLE effect and you can get it to mask some stuff and give you an "old school" sound.

I started with the 210p combo and added a 210HF expansion to it. It's fantastic!

I bet that rig sounds awesome. I heard both, but not together, and was quite happy with what I heard. That 210HF sounds a lot better than the 210 Traveler IMHO.

I recently purchased a Hartke Hydrive 112 ext. cab for my Markbass CMD 121P... adds a beautiful, rich low-end to my sound. Just got a 2010 Amer. Jazz (sold my 1977 Ric 4001- orig. owner)- am learning to like the Jazz a bit more. I would imagine that the Hydrive 115 would be a good compliment to your Markbass 115. With the MB combos... ext. cab draws impedence down- thus 500 watt output!! I have only had the Hartke for about two months- so durability is not yet tested...

This is very interesting. I had originally wanted the Jeff Berlin but did not have a chance to play with it. When I found the Markbass CMD 121P I just fell in love with the sound. I was always amazed at how well in handled the Low B. I liked the setup so well the I bought a New York 121 and a Markbass II head to be able to go stereo or more modular depending on what I needed. But now you have me thinking about 15 speaker again... hmmm.
