Markbass New York 121 Cab Help - Problems!

Sign in to disble this ad
I use a Markbass New York 121 Cab, which I use with my MB 121 amp.

However, the NY cab has started to crackle and fizz loudly whenever I play. I've changed leads, etc, but it's still there.

It's been well looked after, always cased and never really pushed too hard either.

The amp is fine - tried that on it's own and all's well.

Has anyone got any ideas what's happening here? It's out of warranty so I am a little concerned.

Has anyone had a similar experience with these, or with another brand?

Please help!!

On the bottom of the amp section of your 121combo you can unplug the internal speaker and then connect just the extension cab. Try that with a good speaker cable (monster or at least 12-18 gauge speaker wire but preferably a good speakon cable) and turn the tweeter back to about 1/4 and let us know if you still hear the fizzle. Leave the amp section pretty much flat and the input gain so the blue LED is definitely not clipping when the volume is off. Very important that your most aggressive playing doesn't light that up or you're clipping the amp. Sorry if you know this all already, but you asked for help. Adjust gain accordingly and check for fizzle. Also, if the Lpad is very hard to turn it could be burnt. I've heard the lpads on MB are underpowered and there's various posts about a replacement 100 watt pad at Parts Express only if you're no longer under warranty. Also some posts about dangers if the lpad is all the way off causing failures. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
