Markbass SA450 and STD 104HF HELP!!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

I currently play in a band that's heavily influenced by drum and bass with heavy backing tracks and rock guitars

I currently have a behringer 450 which I got cheap and have been making do for gigs but I'm looking for something bigger!

I've been offered a markbass SA450 and an STD 104HF for £950

I know this is cheap as the cab alone is £900 new and this set up is in VGC

The thing is I've never tested it and it's about a 200mile round trip to test it!

What is every1s opinion on this set up
I've only played on markbass in music shops testing out guitars and found they have a very crisp sound but do I fork out the £950 (might be able to haggle it down a little) or is there a better set up I should go for?!!

We've started to gig more and more and I don't want to rely on borrowing 'better' equipment any more but I also don't want something so huge I can't fit it in my car (Peugeot 206)

Any comments/advice will be appreciated as I've got limited knowledge if ampage

Cheers

I've been playing rock and pop with that exact setup. It should work for you. It's a pretty loud rig. I never need to take it past 3 (indoors) on the master.

I have an SA450 as my backup and practice amp. It has never failed me, has very useable sounds and plenty of grunt. I would not call it necessarily a "crisp sound" , although you could dial that in with the right cabinet. As Jimmy M has said many times, it is the closest you will get to a tube sound from a solid state amp. I recommend the amp highly. Go for it.

It's certainly a big step up from what you're using, and likely, even if you don't like it much, you could re-coup the cost easily enough. I'd jump on it, and I'm not even a big Markbass fan.

Looks like all signs are pointing to yes!!

Thanks for the advice people!

I've read up on it a lot and know markbass are reputable so the amp should serve me well!!

And if not-at that price I should always be able to sell it on!!

I just bought that same cabinet for full retail $$. I tried a lot of cabs, and out of what's available in my city, this was the one with the right balance of sound, weight, and volume -- for me (pedestrian finger styler), that is.

I love the mids and lows on this thing -- it sits really well in a band mix. It's not super bright, but it responds well to EQ up top.

I am not familiar with the cab, but I am using the SA450 regularly.

Just in case it' shouldn't give you enough "grunt", add the Tech21 VT Bass.
That's how I am doing it!
