Markbass VS BagEnd

I see Markbass makes a model 151 Newyork, which is even lighter than the Bag End S15D.....37lbs vs 44lbs..does any have experience with this cab? It`s considerably more cash than the BAGEND,..is it worth it?

Personally I think the Markbass stuff is a fad. It's all over the GC stores and Bagend isn't. I own two BE cabs. Q10X-D and a S15B-D. First rate stuff, just heavier.

The standard seems to be a stack of two S15D's if you go BE

Which brand do you see for sale used more often?

I think that speaks volumes.

I'd go with Bag End, no question.

Do BAGEND cabs have Speakon connections?

Some do, some don't. Depends on the cab. Their spec sheet on their website says if it does or not.

My pair of Bag End S15-D cabs have 1/4" or banana plugs, so I have a pair of speakon to banana cables that work very nicely! I used 1/4" to 1/4" speaker cables for a long time with these cabs and never had a problem.

Mine do. I think they are now standard. They were an option a few years ago; you can also order new jack plates for older ones.

Be assured that Markbass is not a fad.

Mark Bass is good stuff. You see them all over GC because there's some kind of deal there. Try to find them somewhere else. I think "fad" is a little harsh, but GC pushes them hard because of the higher profit margin than other brands. (Acoustic excluded)

Bag End is extreme high end. Boutique. They are known for their high end line arrays and pro audio. The music instrument cabs are just now getting a real push from them, although they've been making them for a long time. You generally only see these in real high end Bass shops like Atlanta Bass Gallery, Low End Bass shop etc.

So you're comparing and nice sports car to a Lamborghini. They are two different levels of gear.

If it matters to you, Bag End is Made in the USA.

To me it's no contest whatsoever.
I would not waste a thought on Markbass if Bagend is on offer.

I think those brands have stood the test of time and have earned their space on stage with bassists. Markbass and BE are not as well known or as visible. That was my point.

Save your snarkiness.

"Made in the country it's sold in"... What does that even mean??? They have factories in each and every country they have a dealer? That's not how a global economy works. Markbass is made in Italy.

Bagend is made in Illinois.

I was never that impressed with the sound I heard from MB cabs. I like their amps. I play Bag End, so maybe I'm biased, but I'd go with those!

Markbass is made in Italy.

That's funny, I can remember similar things being said about Bag End thirty years ago.
