Markbass vs. Markbass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Alright, I need the help of people smarter than me! I have studied the specs for the MB Traveler 151P and the MB New York 151. Except for the cabinet dimensions, the specs are identical (even the weight, frequency response, and sensitivity!). So is the cabinet size (and $100) the only difference between the two?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Do a search for TalkBass member Peter Murray. He works for Markbass and has always given me excellent responses to any questions I've had.

Specs might be similar, or same, but they do NOT sound the same. The difference is rather noticable.

NY151 : Tighter sound, flatter response, much smaller, IMHO it is a better choice for a 5 string.

Traveler 151 : Has a noticable low bump, very sweet, sounds warmer than the NY151. I would personally choose this one on a 4 string, but the low bump might make it a bit muddy (and struggle a bit) on the low B.

Not to derail, but not being a fan of Markbass piezos I would, if it were me, go with an "H" (horn) cab. Having owned the 121P and 151P cabs I would go with the 121H if I were to do it over again. I believe the aforementioned Peter Murray used that cab as his primary at one point.

Sorry to go off topic.

Thanks guys! This helps me.

JxBass -I appreciate your comments; something I had not thought of. Do either of the cabinets have a tweeter control? I've seen conflicting info about that.

I owned mine some time ago. I don't remember having a tweet control (or I would have turned it off). Perhaps later versions do?

Well, I imagine that the NY would be easier to carry due to placement of the handles and form factor
