MarkBass vs. Peavey

I am considering a Markbass CMD102 w/Traveler 151P ext. cabinet. Will I notice a big difference in sound over my Peavey Tour 450 w/ an old Peavey 1516 cabinet. Will it be worth the $1500? Wattage and speaker config are similar. Any input is appreciated.

markbass in my view are among the finest amps around. they are known for clarity and not distorting your bass guitar's sound at all. very strong lows and mids, generally a lot of power in a small package. i have two markbass 15" amps as well as the micromark 6", part of my travel rig when i am on business. markbass gets a major thumbs up from me, you cant go wrong.

All I can say is I love my Markbass CMD 121H combo. Lightweight and with a killer sound. It won't fill a coliseum, but that's what PAs are for. I have had compliments from fellow musicians on the sound of this amp.

It's like comparing rock and roll to jazz. Certain amps have certain flavors.

I take it you can't try before you buy? Check the Markbass roster and see if you like any of those player's tones. This should help you approximate wether it would be a good match to what you are doing.

See if the store your dealing with, (if it's not a mail order outlet), will let you either borrow or rent the rig for a live gig.
If it's a Guitar Center, they usually have a total refund return policy on gear you've bought new and it didn't do as you expected.
Gear that sounds great in the store while your playing by yourself doesn't always sound as expected in a live band setting.
If it performs in a live/loud band as you want it to...then decide if it's worth the expense.

The only tricky thing about testing at a live gig is when it's a bad venue, sound-wise. So, just keep that in mind. If it doesn't perform well, some of it could be due to that.

Oh, and I would suggest getting the 102HF Standard cab for an extension instead of the 151. I'm always afraid of note cancellation due to phase problems with two different-sized speakers. Maybe someone else will elaborate on that better than I can.
