Marshall 100 Watt Super Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got the Holy Grail of guitar amps, a very early 1969 Marshall Plexi 100 Watt SuperBass and a Basketweave 412 with the original 25 watt Pre-Rola Celestions. I play guitar through this with an Aracom Attenuator to knock it down somewhat and keep them old precious Celestion speakers happy.

I now also want to play Bass with this head, but not going to chance blowing the speakers.

Couple questions:

I have the little 2 10" Ampeg Micro VR cab, rated at 150 watts 8 ohms--with or without the Attenuator will this be safe with the SuperBass? That thing can easily do 200 watts peaking.

I'd like to be able to play out sometime with this if it's ok. I feel safe enough at home for recording at lower volume.

Someday I might get a 412 with Bass Cones and really see what my 100 Watt Super Bass can do, but for now I am not willing to risk my old Basketweave!

Nice stuff!
It'll be fine if you use your ears & listen for any 'un-wanted' noise from the speakers, but I wouldn't push the amp too hard into just the one 2x10"cab.
I used to have a '80's Super Bass & thru a larger cab it was mighty nice.
I used it into a 6x10 &/or 2x15 for great classic rock tones.

Sweet rig!!! I'm a BIG fan of Super Basses (have 3 early 70s amps, myself). I love mine through a pair of high-power 4x12s (Marshall 1982B cabs with Celestion G12-80 speakers), or my JCM 800 Bass Series cabs - 4x12 and 2x15.

One thing I learned was that when playing bass through it, I had to dial the Bass control back to about 6 max, and the Presence control back to about 3, unless I wanted some Lemmy-esque overdrive. I also plugged in to the low Channel 2 input usually. Plug into the high Channel 1 input for some serious crunch!

Enjoy!

Cheers!

Beautiful amp my friend. I love my early 80's jcm800 through one of my ampeg 15 x 10 cabs. Great grind and in stereo with an svt and berg 215....best of both worlds. Unfortunately I'm not a amp ohm load guru so I can't offer advice. Just a question, what is your address again and do you tend to lock the front door? he he.

A 15 x 10? That would be a colossal cab.
