Can you put bass speakers in a guitar cab.

Yes.

But it will not sound nearly as good as bass speakers in a well designed bass cab.

Sure you can.
If you like the sound then it's good.
Steve Harris of Iron Maiden uses regular Marshall 4x12 cabs with EV drivers and he sounds great.
Entwistle used regular guitar style unported Hiwatt 4x12 cabs back in the day - listen to Live At Leeds.
There are many great examples.

It can be done, but the results won't necessarily be good. Much better to use a bass cab, but you could get "lucky" with it.

Hi.

Yes.

Since You mentioned Marshall, the JCM800 4*12 Bass cab had (and originals still have) G12H100 speakers in the regular Marshall slanted cab.

The sound is vintagey, but as I remember from my teenage years, pretty darn good .
