marshall mb450h with 8x10?

Sign in to disble this ad
hello fellas...

so i´m thinking about buying the marshall mb450h head, since i really like the modern/classic channels and their blend function. now all i need is a cab to go with it.
but, there is one thing i don´t understand.

this is known about the amp:
300 watts Output @ 4 Ohms
450 watts Output @ 2 Ohms

now, the mbc810 (8x10 inch) has an 4 ohm, so it would be running with 300 watts. but what is the use of the big 810 cab, if i cant run it a 2 full power? wouldnt it be better to use 2 4x10 cabs, having 4ohms + 4ohms = 2ohms? or am i not getting it right?

but why should anyone buy the 8x10 inch cab then? perhaps to add a 1x15?

any help will be appreciated.

Im running the head with the 1x15 cab and its not cutting through the band mix, so you might want to concider a single MBC410, or maybe running two so you can get the full 450W power.

With 8 10's, the 300 watts is plenty. Volume has more to do with speakers than power. But, you're right, 2 4 ohm 4x10's would certainly be better.

thanks for the answers. but it just seems useless to me.
why not build a 8x10 cab with a 4 ohm and 2 ohm input? then all the power could be used.

and another thing. what would happen if i use a 8 ohm cab? i would have even less watts, right? but what if i use two 8 ohm cabs? would i have the 300w again?

Two 8ohm cabs = 4ohms
Two 4ohm cabs = 2ohms
Four 8ohm cabs = 2ohms

I've got an MB450H running 410 and 115 cabs. That obviously gives you the 2 ohms and all 450 watts. It's LOUD! That said, If I had it to do over again, I'd do the pair of 410s
