Marshall MB450H & MBC115 Amp Care

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everybody,

Yesterday I bought myself a Marshall MB450H head unit, and the MBC115 cab to play it through. I'm really happy with the combination of the two, I think they sound great.

One thing is their size, since they're seperate units - they're easy enough to cart around individually, but when stacked they're pretty hefty. The cab in particular is a little on the large, heavy side.

To lug them up and down a flight of stairs in my house is a bit much after each practice, so I've been considering keeping them in the garage. Does anybody do else keep their gear in a garage?

What are the potential problems with doing this, relating to this environment - ie damp, temperature etc? And what measures could I take towards keeping the amp safe and in good condition for as long as I can?

The amp head has a classic channel with valves in it - I've never owned anything other that transistor amps before, and I've never owned an amp with a seperate speaker before either.

Could somebody please either point me in the direction of, or provide me with a guide to all of the conventions and techniques used to preserve an amp for as long as possible. (For instance; How do you care for an amp like this, eg: Turn this down before switching that - keep this channel at this volume - make sure that is/isn't plugged in when you do whatever... ect)?

Thanks for any help you can give,

Jack.

Sorry to be a pest, but I'm bumping this - just because the space issue is fairly pressing. Does nobody have any advice on this?

Are garages good places to store this kind of equipment?

I practice/gig on average about once or twice a week.

Again, thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Jack.

I just found mildrew or mold or something on the back of some PA speakers i have in an indoor basment room pretty similar to a garage. Haven't had the courage to look at the drivers yet.

Guess it might depend on where you live... in Tuscon it might not matter. In Maine it does.

I live in the North East of England. I've never been to the states, so unfortunately I have no frame of reference regarding Maine or Tuscon. I doubt anywhere in the UK is as dry as Arizona though.

My garage is pretty much damp free though - what about temperature fluctuation, or for that matter, just the cold on its own?

Thanks,

Jack.
