Marshall Super Bass owners

i am not satisfied with my bassman 135. it has a great clean tone but i want balls. i know the super bass will give me the grind and dirt that i want but will i be able to get any bottom end thump from it? i plan on running it with either a 4x12 or 2x15.

I recently played a JCM800 super bass against a Silverface Bassman 100 not only was the marshall super QUIET when cranked it didn't crunch up nice either. But could of been bad amp or tired tubes. My 2 cents.

Mine does!

Well, its a copy of one actually...

Has both balls, 100w of them, and plenty of low end... with the proper cab.

Yep! All you need, is a good tube amp you can crank into overdrive without ear splitting levels... Well, you can get that loud, if you like playing for free and by yourself.

I owned a 73' Super bass and a 80' Ric 4001s along with a peavey 4x12 bass cab. It was heaven. (if you like Motorhead) I completely regret selling every piece of that rig.

I use a 2061X (which on the bass channel is like a mini Superbass plexi) with an Emperor 2x15". I use it with a clean boost. Can easily grind, like this:

or even like this:

I have a Marshall Lemmy and it has huge bottom whilst only going through a lil Epifani 1x12. It gets really loud and I can even get grind at low volume if I dig in real hard. The sound is incredible. I can't wait to put it through a 6x10!

I don't own a Superbass, but have played a couple. I concur on the great grind. They certainly have ballsy tone through good speakers. Two Superbass amps (one clean, one dirty) would be better than one.

In order of most to least headroom, DR405, DR201, and DR103 (4-input version). A 2-input DR103 works well too if it's slightly modified to reach the same headroom of the4-input version. For Hiwatt amps, I would stick to the vintage Hylight era (pre-1981). For a newer Hiwatt type amps, the Reeves Custom 225 or Weber MYWATT 400/200 are probably the best options.

Hiwatts are great

You have a DR405? I'm proud.

so the jumping theory would apply to 2 modern super bass amps?
just like jumping channels with an old 4 input Marshall superbass? I must try this.

I picked this up a month ago - JCM 800 Bass Series MKII 100w, w/a 1935a 4x12 Bass cab. This makes 2 100w Super Bass MK IIs for me. 1 w/ vert inputs, 1 w/ horiz. inputs.
I tried the horiz. input 1st and it sounded damn good. Next time I tried the verical input and it sounded even better (I read the older vertical input amps have better mids and highs).

This is competing w/a 600w mosfet M2000 boogie w/ 2-1x15s.

It completely holds up next to the boogie, I love the dynamics and the amp seems to just blend better w/ the 100w JCM 900 & 100w Laney protube guitar amps I play bass against.

I play in a crossover band and get gigs in both the punk and metal genres.
I used my boogie last tuesday opening for NoMeansNo (canadian punk).
I'm gonna try the Marshall at the Red Fang (portland metal) gig in a few weeks.

My plan is to move primarily to the Marshall, & this gig will be a great test run.

I've only played early 70s Marshall Superbass amps. For a two amp rig, I'd jump the channels on at least one of them, the dirtier one.

Slightly less headroom and different tone from a Superbass. The Sovtek Mig 30,50, 60,100, etc amps are very solid though and can sound great with good tubes.

Anyone know how the headroom of a 72 Superbass would compare to a early-70's Ampeg V4/V4B?
