Marshall VBA + VBC 412 Cab- Just tested it!!

Just got delivered my Marshall VBA 400 to go with my Marshall 412 Cab.

This rig is unbelievable- the best bass sound I have ever had.

My bass is a Warwick Thumb 5 with thru neck.

Im using contour 2 and only boosting mids a little- so fairly flat. This amp and cab are perfectly matched to my bass which is surprising given that the Marshall gear is old school and the warwick pretty techno.

The most fantastic fingerstyle tone- growly and WARM with capital letters. Loads of volume ( more than anyone would need.)

Compared with my Trace Rig- (with ext speaker a similar size and weight) but no real comparison- I was looking for warmth and now I have got it. The Trace is a little cold but fine really- has done me well for the last three years.

Why I didnt do this years ago I dont know. Cannot wait to try it in a band setting.

Cheers

Bob

Great !

I also have a Warwick thumb (B.O. 6 string) and I prefer
the sound of it with my new Mesa 400+ than with my QSC-Demeter rack.

- What music style are you playing ?
- Does your 412 cab is sealed ans tweeterless ?
- How is the slap sound ?

I'm jealous!!!! I got a Thumb 6 NT and am currently in the market for a VBA400. My Carvin RL1000 just isn't doing it for me anymore.

Hey Stay Gold, I am really interested in how the Marshall compares to the Mesa 400+ which I see you used to own. I am seriously considering the VBA amp which seems which is 25% cheaper then my Mesa cost over here. Also keen to hear any comments on the Marshall bass cabs which are about half the price of a SWR Goliath over here. It all seems a bit too good to be true.

Its been about 40 yrs since I heard a bass thru a Marshall. I've never had a chance to try one out myself. Never see them in stores - not here, Illinois or Florida.

Would be really interested to know a USA price on these and the cabs to provide a point of comparison. They are VERY cheap over here Downunder where all decent bass gear is imported.

Bought a head for $1500 and a VBC 412 for $500.
Have tried 2xP's, 1x J, Alembic Essence 5, Warwick Streamer, Gibson EB2D and it is the best amp I have used in 42 years of playing.
My band has 2 other relics who use Les Pauls into 50W Marshalls.
Heaven on a stick.
