Matching cabinets

Sign in to disble this ad
There's been alot of talk lately about how important it is to "match" cabinets when looking for an extention cabinet.

15" + 15", 210 + 210, ect....

It used to be popular to see a 410 + a 15 as well as a 210 + a 15 in backlines almost everywere. When did this thinking fall by the wayside?

I used to use a 410 + a matching 210 in my rig with great success, and have actually rebuilding my rig to mirror this setup. I guess this is wrong now?

Only if it doesn't sound good. Truth, there are some combinations that you should stay away from, but that is not the end of the discussion. You will here a lot of people say to only ever match cabs and you will here a lot of people say the opposite. Ultimately the decision falls to your ears. Does it sound right? If so then you have a good match.

I play a 210 with a 112 on top and it is the best sounding rig I have ever played. It works for me.

When bassplayers started to educate themselves in how their gear actually works rather than rely on voodoo.

A 410/210 is OK if they use the same drivers, so the 410 has half the impedance of the 210 and therefore all the drivers receive the same power.
