Since it is so tough finding anything besides GK, SWR, Markbass, and Ampeg in my town, I am considering putting an ad on Craigslist asking if anyone has certain cabs, and offer to pay a "test fee" (like $10.00-15.00 bucks) to the owner to try my Bassman vintage head through it. I think it would be worth it.

A sample list:

Avatar
Aguilar
Mesa Boogie Powerhouse
Acme
Carvin
Bergantino

And the list could on and on. I also called cartage companies SIR and Tennessee Stage and Studio. Their stock gets moved around a bit, so you have to catch cabs as they rotate in. I am waiting on a Powerhouse 2x15 that is supposed to come in next week.

I just know I am not going to buy another cabinet until I hear MY head through it.

What do you guys think?

Interesting idea, I have had to buy a few things without testing them out because of my location, my luck has increased 10 fold after becoming a TB member but still not the funnest thing to do. I am not in the market for anything at the moment but I will watch to see if you have any success and maybe give it a try here too, I know if I saw the ad I would let you test out my Avatar cab, if you were a nice guy I wouldn't even charge you haha, best of luck

If you were in my town and I had the gear you wanted to test, I would just have you come over, no fee necessary. Of course, would be nice to try your stuff as well. Maybe one could get a meeting group like once every couple of months to test and sample gear.

I think its a pretty good idea. Like another poster said though, I think a lot of guys are very trustworthy on talkbass and would be willing to let you come down and try the gear out no fee if you put your location on your profile. I know that if you were from Winnipeg you could come try out my avatar cab if I got to try out your cab.

Organize a Talkbass GTG, or a few even. I have heard tons of cabs (literally, I think) this way.
