Mb200 speaker cord problem (1/4 not speakon)

Sign in to disble this ad
The manual notes you can use a 1/4 cable

Ive tested a known t/s cable and cabinet ..... No output

Head works via speakon

I don't want to redo all of my cabinets

Am I doing anything wrong?

Some MB200's don't have the 1/4" and speakon combo jack.

If its a combo, it will be greenish-black. If its speakon-only, it will be plain black.

makes sense... is a black only...

Bummer on this one.

I'll be ghettofabbing something up for my cabs.

Thanks a ton --- I appreciate your fast reply.

The online materials obscurely hint to a combination jack.

You can either get a speakon to 1/4" adapter or even better buy a speakon connector and change one side of the speaker cables (no soldering with speakons). Just connect what was the tip to 1+ and what was the body to 1-.
You could also change the cab connectors to the safer and more secure speakons.

Unfortunately all of my cabs are 1/4

Guessing I'm the victim of marketing propeganda... and have an hidden budget to retrofit something.

As Mr. B stated, easy fix and have one dedicated cable to use with this amp. No soldering with Speakons.

Adding Speakons to your cabs is a pretty simple and inexpensive affair, not to mention worthwhile.

Understood Bill ... you're right...

This starts my BillF issue.. if retrofitting connectors, why not just design a cabinet that meets all the needs... (storage, kickback, cord management etc)

Speakon to 1/4"

I am not handy with soldering irons, splicing wires whatever, just always turns ugly on me, I've no patience for it, prolly the real problem.

So even I was impressed with myself when I bought a Speakon connector to convert one end of a 3Ft, 1/4" speaker cable and found it was so easy and actually worked when applied.

It is a very easy convert. One thing I learned, if the wire ends are tinned be sure and cut that stuff down to offer good barewire ends. The tiny internal screws of the Speakon connectors were letting the wire ends slip out when kept tinned.

I had to go back and re-tighten the screws a couple times, til I was told here remove the tinned portion for a better connection. I might seem to be overthinking this but then look at me avatar here. It's an easy fix.

So were mine at one time. It took a little bit of work but now they ALL sport speakons.

I recently picked up an MB200 and it too does not have the combo jack. Forced be to get a Speakon cable but that is probably a good thing.
