Unhappy MB500 - sad NAD…

Sign in to disble this ad
Found a used #1 condition GK MB500 (for gigging atop my 212MBE) on MF for $375, it arrived today, but won’t power up. Tried different power cords, tried different outlets…

Any ideas? Having saved $125, should I look into having it repaired? Could it be something really simple?

I haven’t seen these on sale or used before, and I just don’t want to pay $500 if I don’t have to.

Thanks...

Return it. Items are sure to not be DOA from Music123/MF, and covered by their 30 day return policy IIRC.

Most repairs of MB500s require a new power module.

Return it and start a fuss. You'll probably get a new one for the same cost. Worked for my brother and a broken used Tech 21 combo...

I received a MB210 off here and the same thing happened, I guess during shipping. I took it to the local GK repair and it turned out to be a solder came loose, might be worth a lookie to a gk repair center in your area? just an idea though i know I was a little upset when i first got my rig, but im very happy with it now.

I just found that there’s a GK service center just a few miles away. Should I just ask them what they suggest?

That also sounds like a good idea. Maybe if they cut me a break, like 20% off a new one, it wouldn't be worth trying to get it repaired.

Most of the parts are modules. My preamp module is bad in my MB500 (the amp works fine if I plug it into the return). I'll get my RMA soon...

The thing just doesn’t power up, but I’m thinking the power amp might be fine.

Would the module I need be expensive?

It was used, so no warranty; all I can do is return it.

there should be a small fuse inside of it. thats what i thought mine was at first. you can contact them see what they say, if they arent going to give you a discount on a new one, it might be worth letting the repair center atleast look at it.

I'd Return it. You should be able to get a NIB one for 10% off any day, or even 15 to 20% off at times. They almost always have a 10% off coupon any more.

Return it and put up a fuss and see if you can get 20% off a new one.

Or else just wait for a 15-20% off coupon to come or a 50 off or 100 off code and buy a brand new one.
