MB500 Speakon Jack Issue

Sign in to disble this ad
Folks, I recently exchaged a new RH450 (didn't quite do it for me) for an MB500 that is the BOMB! The only wrinkle is that I have one Speakon cable and was trying to attach a second cab using the 1/4" connector in the dual purpose Speakon connectors in the rear of the unit and the 1/4" would go in only half way (and was EXTREMELY tight) and would not seat no matter how had we tried to push it in. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm assuming I'll need to exchange it or buy another Speakon.

Bob G. are you out there?

Thank you!

Earl

I just tried to plug a 1/4" into the back on my MB500 and they also don't want to go in, just as you described. I checked my manual and it says that it should take both 1/4" and speakon.

Interesting, looks like speakon's are the way to go. It's no big deal but makes a guy wonder if it's a typo in the manual or a manufacturing error??

Could well be the speakons are not the combo version of the socket.

Speakon/ 1/4" combo jacks are green. If yours aren't green they aren't combo jacks.

Both the jacks on mine are black. Speakon only it is. Someone forgot to tell the documentation dept there was a part change.

Well, I was about to say y'all are on drugs, but what do you know? The speakon jacks on my MB500 are indeed green. I never noticed before. And, yes, they do accept speakon and 1/4".

Ok then, I agree with Foo, someone should've told the Docs dept; and the Ad dept and the Manufacturing floor, and...

I wonder if the combo jacks were on the old MB2 and just didn't make it to the newer version (or they had a crapload of the older non-combo speakons and decided to get rid of 'em!)

Bad form, GK, bad form!

Earl

P.S. But I still LOVE the little bugger, massive presence and bottom end that'll shake your cab apart!

I ordered my MB500 online from GC like 3 months ago. It obviously has combo jacks. I guess it could have been older inventory, but...

I've been an electronics manufacturing guy for the past 2o years. I find stuff like this interesting, would love to figure out why but...don't think GK will let me into their ERP system.
Anywho....I love my MB500! Totally rocks my socks.

Glad mine are the green ones cuz I ain't got and don't want anything speakon.
There is a lot of very transparent lows on that amp and I have had to re-glue several of my old cabs and tweak back the bass knob.

FWIW, I had a MB500, ordered new 2 months ago. I ending up returning it. But, included in the paperwork, there was an additional page that stated that the speakon was no longer a combo connector. The manual stated otherwise. But there was an amendment to the owners manual.

Now you mention it, I recall reading about this in another thread here on TB. I'm sure you're right.

BassBrad, It's interesting you should say you had to re-glue some of your cabs. I have a couple of older Avatar cabs that started buzzing the minute I hooked 'em up to the M500. They NEVER buzzed in 7 years with my 800RB!
