which medium-sized cab

I'm looking for a 410 or 212 cab that has pretty much "linear" frequency response, "uncolored" or whatever expression might fit here. At the moment I have bergantino AE410 and while it sounds good on low end, it's too harsh on high end for what I want. I don't want hi-fi sound, rather old school. Amps in use are svt-vr and m-pulse 600, basses are 4 and 5 stringed, active and passive, precision and jazz types. I need a versatile cab or a cab with no extreme voicing so that adjustments with eq can make it usable for different styles. Sound-wise I like ampeg svt 410he, but since it's 8 ohm it seems a little risky to use with svt-vr. So I need 4 ohm, 500 W or more.

What I would do is I would ditch all of those amps and go for a hartke 410 hydrive cab and if you are going to get a head, I would get the lh500 or lh1000 depending on the wattage you would like. For the cab and the lh500, the price totals to about $950. All of the pros use this amp including-victor woo ten and the bassist of megadeath. I am actually going to go buy one today. I had many recommendations.

It is not risky to run a 8 ohm load with a head that can go down to 4 ohms....an 8 ohm load is putting less strain on it is all and you will just not be getting as much power from your head!! now you would not want to run a 2 ohm load on a head that is only good for 4 cause it will make it heat up too much and fry it.The 4 ohm ratting on your head is just the minimum that it can safely work under an higher ohm ratting meaning less load is perfectly acceptable!!

You're thinking modern solid state heads. The svt vr is an all-tube head with output transformer and needs to be impedance-matched for best results.

Ok my bad i thought that it had a 8 ohm 4 ohm switch....was wrong it is 4 ohm / 2 ohm..so yes i get what you are saying...well in that case just add another 8 ohm cab and one will have a 4 ohm load...or get a mice lil 810!!! that will give one all they are looking for

I can't have 2 cabs... stages are too small. 1 cab max and it has to be efficient for occasional larger gigs.

But if i person stacks ones cabs they are not taking up anymore stage space seeing they are just getting taller and not wider! 2 410's take up no more space then one 410...no they only way you going to get a smaller 410 setup is to take 2 210 and stack the vertically!!

I am just thinking out loud here but if you want a 4 ohm load then 2 smaller cabs sounds like the way to go. How about a couple of 2x10 or 1x12 cabs?

That would be an option but would also cost more. How does aguilar db series compare to ampeg svt cabs?
