Question Mega Amps

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi All,
I'm from Montevideo, Uruguay, I`m pretty sure most of you are scratching your heads and wondering... Where? Uru what? I swear, it`s a real country in South America between Argentina & Brazil. Maybe some football (the real one, not that thing played by armored guys) fans know Uruguay for our performance in South Africa`s world cup.

Enough with the intro, I would like to know if some of you heard of this amp brand, cause it suddenly appeared in the Uruguayan market (very small by the way). I'm pretty sure they are some kind of cheapy-cr*ppy-generic chinese brand.
Here is the link for their website

http://www.megaamps.com/

As English is not my mother tongue I appologize if my writing is somehow hard to understand

Plucking from the south

Hi.

By the looks of them, yes, Chinese amps for sure. But that's not necessarily a bad thing and doesn't automatically mean crappy. IME only of course.

What made me chuckle was the MEGA bass stack: 4*8" with a 60W head .

For the price, those amps may be a decent bang for the buck, impossible to tell without trying .

Regards
Sam

I totally agree with you down here we are always looking for a decent bang for the buck . Due to shipping prices everything is much more expensive than up there. To prove that i made a quick web research (10 minutes while at work )I compared Musician`s Friend to two Local Retail stores

Behringer ULTRABASS BT108 Musicians Friend $69.99 Uruguayan Retail Store $125
Marshall MB30 MF $199 URS $239
Fender Rumble 15 V2 15W 1x8 MF $99 URS $210
SWR LA15 $349 URS $525
MARSHALL MB60 MF $499 URS $1159
Fender Bassman 150 MF $499 $750
Peavey MAX 115 MF $279 URS $570

What drove my attention was that a 60w mega amp (PL60B) costs $250, that`s why I would like to know if this is actually a decent bang for the buck or... well, pick your metaphore for a crappy amp.

In case you want to check prieces down here

Brother, your English is better than many posters on this site whose mother language IS English.

I can offer no advice as the link didn't work for me.

think of what goes into an amp and how much is left over for parts and labor after shipping,insurance,advertising/marketing costs, then add up if the unit could be built with decent components/quality control for what's left.....250-usd doesn't leave much room imho, and even factoring in massive bulk buying power wouldn't cut it for me.....if i lived where you do i'd consider buying quality used gear from america, and ship the best way possible.....i assume any good u.s. gear would hold it's value if you sold it locally....

I just wanted to know what about this ones to have something at my drummers place. Nowadays I`m using a borrowed peavey there. I already own an ampeg BA115hp combo ($900 used a real steal down here) at home.

Just to let you know shipping costs plus taxes on a $500 amp ends up costing around $1.000 or more, due to overweight

I'm sure a TBer (me or someone else) would be willing to DHL an amp to you.

I could find out if my brother travels to Uruguay.

From the marketing alone, it appears to be gear setup for American Kids OR to be private (store) branded.

Well it seems like i solved my problem I'll trade my old (and unplayed for years) J modded to P/J 90s Squier with Dimarzios for the Borrowed peavey combo.

Anyway if some of you have some info about this brand I´m pretty sure it would be useful for all.

Thanks in advance

what kind of peavey....have you considered a head/cab rig.....shipping speaker cabs is pricey, and maybe this is one of those times when a diy cab would actually save you money....a decent gk rb head probably would be reasonable to ship to rio de la plata country and raw speakers are lighter these days, and more so without the plywood

It`s a Peavey TKO 115 (green line). As it cost me almost nothing (I really hadn´t played that Squier for years). I`ll keep saving a couple of months to get a decent head. And maybe divorce, who nows
