Mesa 400+ and Vintage Ampeg 810

Anyone here played through combination before? I have a 400+ on the way but my only cab right now is a mid 70's Ampeg 810. Not sure how good a match it will be but I have always wanted to give the 400+ a try so when an opportunity came up to grab a 400+ at a good price I went for it thinking if I don't like it I can always sell it. However I wonder if my 810 is not really going to show me what the Mesa is capable of.

Ummmm, yeah. That SHOULD work out just OK.
I have always preferred the 400+ to the SVT... I think you are going to be VERY happy.

Yeah, we'll see how it compares to my SVT. I Had a Bassman 300 PRO and that combination of amp and cab along with flatwounds just did not work for me...

it will work fine. I used this set up till I got my powerhouse/road ready 4X10/1X15 cab...it was for me like night and day better when I got the 400+ and then again 150% better once I switched to Mesa cabs. Its a much more agressive more hi fi type of response than the warm ampeg. But the quickness of the head and and warmth of the ampeg cab might just be the ticket your looking for..for me the mesa cab, 400+ and an old Spector NS-2 was the most in your face no nonsense type of tone I have ever gotten. I NEVER have trouble getting lost in the mix with that set up. Good luck! and welcome to the land of 400+ ( I like JJ tubes in mine too)

Some of the best tone I ever got was from a 400+ and Ampeg810 combo. My girlfriend, at the time, said it shook her boobs, and who doesn't want that.
