Mesa 410 input jack noise?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a brand-spanking new Mesa Powerhouse 410 and when I got it home I noticed a sound that I thought was my overhead light rattling. Turns out it was coming from the 1/4" input on the back of the cab. The parallel out jack has a little plastic cover (cap / plug) over it, the 1/4" does not. I am using the speakon jacks so the 1/4" input is "open" (not capped). When I cover the input with my finger, the sound goes away. Do I just need a cap to cover this input? Is this normal or is something wrong with the horn / cab?

Yeah, that's normal for those cabs - I had the same thing happen with my PH610 - sounded like something wrong with the cab, but it was just air moving thru the unused 1/4" jacks... I plugged mine with 1/8" vacuum caps from an auto parts store - cost a buck or two, and works great...

Sounds wierd??? Sometimes somethings left loose inside the cab. I've found a screw-didn't belong anywhere-resting against a speaker cone, & that buzzed like a drive was screwed.
But a noise that goes away when the jack input is covered.....??
At least u can safely return it..... Hope it works out.
Edit-just read George's reply. Wow!
