Mesa BB750 Overheating?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone who has the Big Block 750 has had problems with it overheating? I know there's 2 fans at the back and there's ventilation at the front but the heat only seems to be coming out the front vent. I was using it for about 2 hours at practise a couple of nights ago and noticed my rack unit was quite hot at the sides and then when I went to adjust a setting on the BB the pots and pretty much the whole front panel were pretty damn hot! Is this possibly an issue with the fans in it? I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to heat up that much!

What kind of a Rack system are you using?. IME and from what I've heard from other's experience with Mesa BB and Titans, is that they really put out the heat and that if if you rack these heads you better give them an extra space above and below for ensured ventilation. Mesa may be able to give you exact info, but the person I bought my Titan from had problems with overheating and had a 3 space Rack case (fitted the Titan exactly with no room to breathe) , and sold it toto me with the head- the first time I cranked it for any period of time-it shut down on me- I promptly took it out of that tight case and its not going back in!! If it gets too hot it will just shut down on you till it cools down, Peace...DAcat

I have mine in a 2 space SKB rack case and never had that problem. The air coming out the front is warm but, the knobs are never hot..maybe open it up to see if dust is restricting air flow and to be sure the fans are working properly..,or get a bigger rack to let more air flow..., Or,in a more extreme case, drill a few tiny holes in the sides of your rack to let more air escape from inside the rack case .I'm sure I read a thread on here about a fan swap to a more powerful fan if it bothers you that much..sorry,I could'nt help more....

Before you open up the amp tell us what speakers you are using and what impedance they are.

I'm using a Warwick 411 Pro(which according to Warwick uses eminence speakers) and it's 4ohms. It may very well be a dust problem with the fans, I'll give it a look when I'm next at practise during the week. I'm also using a 10 space rack and there's a few spaces free in it so there's plenty of room for ventilation in there.
