Mesa Boogie

Hey all, just a quick note. I've made the switch to Boogie after a long time relationship with Gallien Krueger.
The M9 Mesa head really sounds great to me, full, round and accurate with just a little bit of grit. Plenty of power and though I haven't tried the 2x15" cab, I ordered one after conversations with the tech/ rep who assured me that their 'double secret' speaker manufacturer (not Eminence or Pyle, but a smaller domestic operation that remains nameless) has conjured up a 15 that sounds like the old EVM series I LOVED so much from the 'old days'. 600 watt rating per speaker (which doesn't mean much to me, ratings are all over the map these days!) At any rate I think 900 watts into that cab should make it work just right. BTW, I paid for this stuff, I am not taking on endorsements to get free gear, I was an endorsement whore many moons ago but no more. :-)

Im sure you will LOVE it! Its hard to beat the M9. When you crank this thing up it really moves some air. Ive never heard a boogie 2x15 cab either, but im sure it will kick some tail. Congrats on the new rig.

My brother in law is also a bass player. He uses an M9 with a MESA PH610 or a Hartke 410 Hydrive. With either cab it sounds awesome!

Hey Vail;
as a long time M9 user, I can assure you that when you do get that 215 cab in hand, that'll be a stunning pairing.
I'm fairly sure I'll feel it from here.

(Your previous GK rig didn't look too slouchy!)

Nice move Vail congrats! I've been a Mesa user and lover for 20 years now. I still have my old 215 EV equipped cab and tube head (still use it occasionally too), but recently got a Titan V12 and ph810. I still love the sound of the 15's, and been wanting to pick up a ph215 as a more portable cab to drag around some places.

What, you didn't go for one of the feather-light heads?

I had the pleasure of demoing Lomo's M9 with a LDS 15/6 cab (I think that's what it was) and it sounded really good. I bet you it will be a great setup.

Hey Vail, a followup question:
what are you replacing your four 412 cabs with?

Just one M9? and one 215?

Just as words of caution, driver power specs are usually their thermal limit at which the voice coil melts. In actuality the drivers can use about half of that. You'll be running up to 900W into a cabinet that can make use of 600W. You may well already know this but I thought it important enough to mention.

Good luck with your new system.

yes, smaller rig for smaller (but very fun!) gig. :-)
I will be touring with Keb' Mo' for the rest of the year and maybe more. I played on his new CD and accepted his offer for the tour.
I'll still have the GK rig for the Kenny G gig in storage.

good thoughts, thanks. I always like more headroom in the amp and rarely, if ever, drive the speakers into nasty distortion. I think the early EVM's were rated at 200 watts and they sounded great with lots of power, don't think I ever blew one of them. I have blown GK neo- 15's and way back when Peavey Black Widows would last about one solo! :-)

Vail,
I am a huge Mesa fan... they are a great company.
I have the M 9 and use it with 2 PH single 15 cabs....and an X Factor
Pretty incedible versatile amp with tons of tone.
The Scout combo is also a great combo for the smaller venues.

Great to see you back out on the road with Keb Mo...
Loved the Beatles CD ..

All the best

DP

The M9 rules.
Love mine. I'd love to hear it thump through a set of 2x15s.
