Question Is the Mesa/Boogie Bass 400 sound in a combo possible?

Trying to duplicate McCartney's bass sound and the Mesa/Boogie Bass 400 head is what he used.

Mainly, attempting to duplicate the sound of his bass on the Let It Be...Naked album. Just superb! Yes, I'll be getting a Hofner, but I'm doing some research and figured I'd subscribe and ask the experts () if there is a product that promises and delivers the Mesa/Boogie Bass 400 sound in a combo package.

If not, I'll have to spend more... but if it exists, I could have the entire rig sooner.

McCartney actually uses the Mesa Boogie 400 Non plus, which uses 6x 6550 tubes. The cabs he uses are diesel series 2x15 and 1516, they're big, they're heavy, they've got great speakers. I don't know any combo that will get you that.

BUT! I'm no expert on every amp on the market. the Hofners a great place to start, I'd look for a Mesa Buster Combo too.

Good luck, I'm actually gonna see him on Thursday in Pitt.

Thanks for the heads-up. I fixed my 1st post to reflect that.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any info on the non-plussed 400 version. Even the Mesa/Boogie website doesn't seem to mention it.

I'm guessing these aren't made anymore and if I want one, I'll have to be patient and wait until somebody sells one or is there a way for me to buy one online?

I'm not sure I'll get these cabs since I'm betting the whole setup would probably cost 5k and that's out of my reach.

If somebody has suggestions about a combo that just *might* replicate that sound, feel free to suggest it.

The Boogie D180 can use six 6550s also.

Just noticed a Bass 400 for sale for $700 shipped. Damn! Won't have funds for 2 months.

Guess I'll have to wait.
