Mesa Boogie Cabinet

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I have just bought myself a Mesa Boogie M9 Carbine head. I have done a bit of research and the 2 cabinets that i have heard great things about is the 6x10 and the 4x12. I was wandering what different sounds do they offer and what would be the best one for my sound (play in a metal band but also like to play a bit of jazz and funk). Any feedback would be appreciated.
Also I play a Rickenbacker 4003, if that helps. Cheers.

If you head over to mesaboogie.com, they have a link to some videos where Allen Kamai plays through pretty much the entire Powerhouse lineup.

I had the chance to A/B the 4x12 and the 8x10. Well, it was kinda an A/B test. The 4x12 was driven by the M6, the 8x10 driven by the M9. I had the EQ the same, and the 4x12 sounded FAR better. A lot fuller, and the bass was deep. Not sure how it sounds in the mix, but everyone seems to have many good things to say about the 4x12.

I think the PH 12" cabs are the perfect match for the Carbine series.

Can't go wrong with either one - I own the PH610, and play alot of modern rock and metal, and it absolutely crushes... but, the 412 blew me away, as well.... They're just both great, great cabs...

I own the PH 412 and although its big, its the single best sounding cabinet I have ever played through. I have other cabs but nothing sounds as balanced and sweet as this one. You cant go wrong with pretty much any Mesa product in my opinion but my M9/PH412 combo is one big load of "WIN" !!!

I think it is funny that they say that the 210 was created for the 115. Guys around here freak when you talk about mixing cabs or speaker sizes.

A 210/15 mix is fine, it's the 410/15 combo that blows. But in this thread, I'd also pick the 412. Actually, I'd go 2x 212's.

THAT would be ideal actually because you wouldn't have to bring the pain train everytime.

Many bass players love the 210/115 setup but there are some issues with mixing speaker sizes that may or may not bother you. I owned an Eden 210/115 setup for years and was never quite happy until I replaced the 115 with another 210. I later bought Mesa 115 and have since paired it with another 115 and the difference between one and two identical cabs is staggering. They sound like you just added 4 times as many speakers when paired up. Once I got used to hearing matched pairs of cabs, I was never satisfied with any combo of mixed cabs as the tone is just not as consistent to my ears.

the 215 is the second best sounding cab for me judging by the videos. the 412 cannot be touched but the 215 was really a surprise for me.
