i'm going to look at a couple of mesa powerhouse 410 cabs tomm...
one is older with mesa boogie on the grill, the other newer with mesa engineering on the grill...
are there any noticeable differences between them other than the different grill logo's?

thanks for your time... | Likely, the one that says "Mesa Boogie" is NOT a powerhouse cab, but rather, a Deisel. Very different.

The EV drivers can be very cool.
Especially when paired with the old mesa tube heads.
But the new PH series is just an all around tighter better cab with many more bells and whistles to tweak your tone.\

as it turned out, the newer cab sold moments before i got there...
but, it didnt have all of the fancy tweaking options as the current ones have...
the only diff i could see in the photos aside from the logo, was it had two ports in the back, mine has one, and the horn control and jacks were in a diff location...
so, i had no choice but to get the older model, which is cool as the logo matches the one on my 400...
serial number is in the 31000's if that is any help in identifying what model it might be, was listed as a powerhouse...
it sounded tight, punchy and hi fi thru a hartke head he had hooked to it, doesnt sound quite the same with the 400, but i'm still learning the amp,and may need to make a few tweaks yet...
and, i dont expect a tube head to sound identical to a ss head thru this cab...
all the same, i'm very happy to have my 400 sitting on a mesa cab...

I nearly bought a dead mint barely used Mesa Boogie Diesel 215 cab locally ...$400.00
But the guy stuck it to me and sold it out from under me last minute ...
Wanted to grab it and sit on it till I could find a super clean 400+ head to run it with.

I play bass in a working cover band. We play every weekend and it's pretty much all modern rock(Breaking Benjamin, Godsmack, Alice In Chains, et al). I'm primarily a 5-stringer, but I do break out the 4 occasionally. I've been playing thru a Genz Benz Shuttlemax 12.0/GB Uber 410 rig for the past couple of years, and it served me well, but I blew up the 410 in Apr/May. At that point, my drummer decreed that both myself and the guitarist should be playing Boogie gear and that nothing else would suffice. I know, right? Well, we both ended up getting Boogie cabs. I was using my GB SM 12.0 with a PH410 and life was good, until...
A crappy weekend in Oct. We've been doing one-nighters for a while, so we played a show Fri. night. Went well with no issues or probs. Tear down, load up, head home. Get to the venue for Sat. nights show. Unload, set up, plug in and...NOTHING! No sound coming from my rig! Soundman unmutes my channel, bass coming from the PA, so it's not the amp. Change speaker cables, still dead silent(I can hear faint sound coming thru the horn). Hafta play a whole show with no bass coming from the stage. That sucked! Take my 6 month old Mesa PH410 to a certified repair place and he calls me a few days later and says 3 of the 4 speakers are done! I know, right? It's still under warranty, so it'll get fixed, but he says it'll take a couple of weeks to get new speakers from Mesa. Crap! I have shows to play and all I've got is a GB Uber 410 with 2 original drivers and a 10" driver from a GB Shuttle combo amp, so it's only got 3 drivers! I tried it for weekend and it just sounded awful. So I expect my PH 410 to be ready the next weekend, but it wasn't so I had to use the GB cab again.
Now, I've got a fairly new, blown Mesa PH410 AND a mostly blown GB Uber 410. I'm starting to think that maybe 410s aren't enough for what I'm doing. I start looking to see what I can add to make this work. If the 410s aren't handling the low B very well, I should probably add a 15" or an 18" and a better compressor. So I decide to grab a PH215 cab. I can use that as a standalone until my 410 gets fixed, except when I go to get it, they don't have any 215s left! The only Mesa cab that fits what I want, and that is available, is a PH1200. So I buy it, because I can't go another weekend with crappy bass sounds, and I fall in love with this cab! Yes, it's huge, heavy, & unwieldy, but it's also LOUD, punchy, and deep & articulate at the same time! I'm pretty stoked after the 1st show with it. About a week after I get the PH1200, the repair guy calls me and says my PH410 is fixed a ready to roll. Now I have a brand new PH1200 and a good-as-new PH410. I'm pretty happy, but I'm wondering of I should keep both cabs? It would probably be prudent to keep them both, but I dunno...
Also, I think my GB SM 12.0 maybe about to bite the big one-it will intermittently just stop working and the sound guy says the DI is bad now-so I'm probably going to be shopping for a head very soon and my drummer is still all about Mesa. I'm ok with that, but what would you recommend? I'm thinking M9 Carbine, but I'd like to hear from those that know...Thanks for listening.

The failure of drivers in both your uber and mesa cabs when powered by a decent amp is not typical. If you really need extreme stage volume you are going to need more speakers to get there or you will keep toasting speakers. I would suggest 2 ohm stable M9 which can be had for a steal in the classifieds and and running both your mesa cabs  .

| | | | IMO, either an M9 or a ShuttleMax 9.2 will work well for you, Phil - and yeah, it sounds like a 410 is just not enough for your current band situation... I cover alot of the same material in my main band - also playing both 4s and 5s - and a 410 isn't enough for me in that band, either... I have both a PH810 and a PH215 - either will get the job done, but the PH810 is a better fit... I also used a PH610 in that band before, and it worked quite well, too - better than a PH1200, actually...
