I haven't been to Music Gallery for a long, long time, but the thing that impressed me most about them was that every instrument played beautifully.

^Agreed. They seem to take impeccable care of their instruments. Great customer service too.

I would love to buy a Walkabout there when I get the cash, but I'm graduating college in June and moving to the West Coast shortly after.

After several months of surgery and rehab and playing with friends, I've got a genuine gig next Saturday. If I can get some help, I'll put the M/B head back in the 1x15 Scout box. This is gonna be soooooo good!

I had a 400+ several years ago and miss it dearly, but I was shocked by how warm the WA's tone can get, especially for such a small amp that doesn't have power tubes. I went to the shop thinking I'd go for the 15, but after playing both, I believe the 12 is more my speed. It seemed punchier and like it would cut through the mix better to me.

Too bad I'm going to have to wait until my first full time job starts in July before I can pick one up.

Also, Music Gallery is a great shop. They're actually doing a small repair on my bass as we speak. Beautiful store and great selection, especially of amps.
No problem! Happy to help. I hesitated to recommend it at first because it's pretty out of the way if you're in the city--as I am, so I've only made it there 2-3 times. But I agree, it's a very fine store. Definitely the best variety of Mesa bass gear in the area, too.

^I'm in Evanston, so it's not too bad.

Question for you all: What's the deal with the black faced WAs vs. the silver faced ones? Are the black faced heads part of a special edition run or are they phasing out the silver amps in favor of the black ones? I greatly prefer the black faced ones, but it seems as if many stores are selling the silver ones as new.

Yeah-some stores could conceivably have new old stock silver ones with black lettering and toggle switch for active/passive, but production for the last couple of yrs is black.

I figured I'd slap up some pics of the WA in action from this weekend's gig. This was a fairly large outdoor venue behind a bar and grill (see pic). The WA is driving an Audiokinesis Thunderchild 112.

We had good PA support, so I wasnt worried about not being loud enough. This rig kept up with the drummer pretty good. I think the opposite side of the stage had a good bit of bass in the monitors though. By the end of the night I had the WA gain and master both at 1pm, getting lots of overdrive when I layed into the strings, but just a touch of warmth when I was gentle.
