When I run my 8 ohm extension cab (the Scout is 4 ohms), then it's even better. These guys play loud, and the drummer hits hard--too hard, really.
I was finally able to get them to turn down a bit at our last rehearsal, and as a result was able to turn my master down to 10:00! I have the Tele/JAN Philips combo in the head now, and I think I am getting a bit more clean headroom. I did need to boost the 2K on the para a bit, though, as these tubes seem a bit "darker" to me. Don't get me wrong: like all of us, I'd love to have power to spare, but not once since I bought my WA have I thought I'd need to get something more powerful. |
PA support vs No PA support can make all the difference in the world to some.

(for the song, situation, venue, whatever)
IMO, YMMV.

IMO, YMMV. | I agree. But overall, both the gig and the hang are great fun, so it's fine print.

This guy is all muscle, no finesse, and to tell you the truth, he doesn't work for this band. "Wonderwall" is a mess; I have to both create and hold down the groove because this guy just bashes away and wouldn't know a Merseybeat if it hit him in the head. However, I'm the new guy and am just happy to have a steady gig playing music I enjoy for the first time in years, so I have to be diplomatic.

IMO, YMMV. | Lol, I've been playing for almost 25 years, Mousier, and I don't think I've ever played in a band where we didn't have to tell at least one guy to turn down. I was sort of under the impression that arguing about volume was part and parcel of being in a band!

Last year I played in places like these with my old m6 carbine, gain at noon and master maximum at 9 o'clock...
so I decided to change and buy my actual walkabout. In palces like this gain at noon and master at 10 o'clock...
Always with my eden 410T 4ohm...
In small places without PA the scout cab is enough...

Clearly, our preferences and needs are different.
I have no problem with that Quote:

Everytime I've tried this with Ampeg gear (SVP, or pre out of SVT or V4B) I was disapointed as it just didn't sound louder, it sounded different (and yes I was using lead sleads)
I want to believe it works; WA pre out to 1 RS of Peavy at 1 Killowatt: I could get behind that but ONLY if the sound stays right. |

Two amps will enter the ring - only one will stay:
Walkabout, or Eden WT550 with an overdrive pedal.
Cabs: a Genz Neo 212t, and before long a fEarful 1212/6.
The battle could be epic!

The battle could be epic! | You'll want to keep both! Well, at least I did. I have a WT-400 and I just couldn't get rid of it when I switched to the Walkabout. The Eden just does so many things well for me in a cover group scenario. For my original band the Walkabout gives me the tone I'm looking for.
They are both very different amps. I used to use a VT Bass in front of the Eden to get a more vintagey dirt sound but that combo didn't really do that magic that the walkabout does. I like the clean on the Eden a little better but that's just because I'm used to the Eden sound.
