Note the 850 implies an older red or silver faced model. A much newer blackface would likely fetch more, as might a particularly clean unit that has had the factory updates (like the toggle for active/passive instead of 1/4" dual inputs).

If anyone's interested in a newly inspected/serviced WA 12" combo, check the classifieds soon. The one I was trying to buy is going back up for sale shortly...

Shhhh... It's not in his profile so I don't think his wife/S-O is supposed to know about it!

Okay, I tried the WA 12 at GC the other day. You guys are right. It was awesome. How do they make it sound almost 3D like that? Magic dust? Elves? I will be a member of this club someday!

Dug around on the Mesa site and found this....

That is just sexy there. Anyone ever seen a Mesa with the leather embossed Lizard like this? I need more money.....

Someone asked about settings to achieve an SVT-like tone.

About a year and a half ago, I asked a certain WA Club Member what he recommended and here was his reply:

"Set input at about 2 o'clock...exactly where will depend on what bass...you want to push the preamp into "harmonically rich, but not necessarily overdriven."
Shelving bass at 1-2 oclock
Passive Mid at about 9 oclock
Para Bass, 50-60hz, 1-2 oclock
Para Mid: flat
Para Treble: 2khz, eleven oclock
Shelving treble, eleven oclock

If you're using the Scout cab, set the horn at 30-40%.
"

Thanks BillyB from LZ

I do appreciate the reply. I was adding a little more mids. I'll give it a shot.

The cost for any of the leathers or fancy woods is stratospheric. A different colour of vinyl is a 150 upcharge, as is a wicker grille, but I asked about a leather cover for my WA12 and it was 500 extra. Gorgeous, to be sure, but with quite a sticker shock. And then-how will you feel when it tears?

"svt setting"

remember, a large portion of the svt sound is coming from those sealed cabs, which are tuned to ~60-80hz at their low end. Deep bass isn't really Gen-U-Wine SVT, IMO.

YMMV of course.

OH MY GOODNESS. I got to try out my new (used) WA head last night. Easily the best sounding amp I've ever played. Absolutely crushes my LMIII. I finally have the tone I hear in my head!

Get me some of that Koolaid!

Yeah, my WAS 1x15 has the cream vinyl. That may prove to be expensive -- I'd love to recover my other six amps with the same finish!

Seriously, I paid a little more -- the store I bought mine from had the cream floor demo and a black one in the box -- but once I saw it I had to have it. After all, I'm not going to buy another bass amp in this lifetime, right?

Well, you don't *need* to buy another, anyway.

i had a thought. since a big part of the WA combo's appeal is its cab design, what if mesa were to come out with amplifier options? EG : your choice of lets say... M 3 or 6 carbine head interchangeable with the original; that way you would be pleasing a wider spectrum of players. some would like the faster response of the carbine and some would prefer the organic warmth of the WA. take a good idea and make it even better and monopolize the combo market

I dig it! How about an option for a 4 ohms WA 2x10 combo. Pair that with another 2x10 and BAM!

Now THAT would be a helluva combo amp/rig!

That opens a new line of reasoning. As a matter of fact, not long after I got the WAS, I picked up a Fender Bassman 400 ($400) to leave at the rehearsal space.

Never underestimate the ability of a musician to rationalize "need."
