Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout 4 ohm to 8 ohm conversion

Sign in to disble this ad
A quick question for Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout Combo owners ...

I have the 4 ohm, Scout 12. I want to convert it to an 8 ohm version. I've been told all I have to do is change the speaker to an 8 ohm one. Questions are these:

Will changing the speaker to an 8 ohm version work (I'd buy a Boogie replacement)?
Or do I have to also do something with the head?
Is it easier to just sell my existing combo and buy a new 8 ohm version?

My goal is to get another cab and use this as a "light" rig, e.g., for open mics and what not. Obviously, I need to have an 8 ohm combo in order to use another 8 ohm cab and make the most of the 300 watts at 4 ohms that the head delivers. I'm just trying to avoid having to sell my current combo and buy a new one at 8 ohms if I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated, to include a link to a previous discussion on this topic.

Thanks,

Alan

Walkabouts are happy down to 2 ohms...no need to change the speaker. Please refer to the Walkabout megathread for more info.

Just change the speaker to an 8 ohm speaker. Nothing needs to be done to the head. As mentioned above, the walkabout is fine at 2 ohms.....so really no need to change. But do whatever you are comfortable with.

Thanks guys. That's what I thought. I'll swap out the 4 ohm speaker for an 8 ohm, and add another cab. More to follow ...
