Mesa Boogie Walkabout vs Ashdown Evo 500 iii

Hey,

I have been looking at both of these amps recently. Have any of you owned them or played them any comments. Which one is better? For the Ashdown I've been looking at the ABM Neo range.

Thanks,

Nathan.

Neither is "better" than the other, but they're both very different. I use a Walkabout (head) with bigger cabs. The choice of speakers is equally important, with either amp.

Used both. The Ashdown was described to me as a lighter SVT sound.
I had one of the first ABM 400's with the chrome front. Used that head with Epifani, EA, SWR cabs. Great warm tone. More muscle than the Mesa.
Both have a baked in tone. I think the Ashdown was a little more neutral.
And a tighter low end. Wish I could find the Ashdown sound in a lighter box.
Sold the Ashdown because of the weight. Bass Player did a review on the ABM when it came out. Very positive.
Hope this helps.

I own the abm ashdown evo II 500 15'' combo, love the crap out of the thing, after GASing for a long time, I finally found one online and ordered it for 550$ they seem pretty rare (i have the older vintage one) it's the warmest beefiest sounding amp I've ever played, but honestly, I played the 4 ohm version of the walkabout and have always wanted one, so I'm trying to buy one now. Both can rock the house down combo alone. My verdict: you really can't go wrong with either, just research them and pick which one would suit your playing style/recording/live sound best. hope that helps! cheers

Can't speak for the Ashdown but the Mesa WA is one great sounding amp. I love mine...it ain't going nowhere:D
