I came across an old MESA 1x15 Diesel cab in a pawn shop the other day. I have a couple of questions that perhaps you guys can answer. 1st of it looks like it is in some sort of road case/ATA style case not your normal tolex covering. Is that a normal thing for these or did MESA offer it as an option? If I remember right it has a single 1/4" plug ig on the back. The other thing is it is loaded with an Eminence speaker. I figure it must be a replacement cause I haven't heard of MESA using Eminence speakers before.
Can someone tell me for sure what the heck I'm looking at?

it should have an EV speaker, stock.

Also made super heavy so the black helicopters couldn't carry these enchanted cabs away.

It's pretty rough looking and If I remember right they were asking close to 3 bills for the thing. What do you think the thing is worth. 300 seems about twice what I think the thing is worth or am I off base.

The boxes are the standard TL606 design from EV. As far as price goes. I might pay $300 for one if it was in exceptional shape, with the cover and all teh ajcks are working. If it has a crossover/tweeter make sure that it is connected correctly. A lot of guys would just yank the wires on the tweeter if they didnt like it (there is an OFF switch guy!).
I'd ask for money off if it doesnt have the cover, the tweet is blown or disc and esp since it isnt the orginal EV. You can argue specs about which driver has more bass, power handling etc, but the box was designed for the EV and to my ears, those sound better.

Snatch it up! especially if it has the cover and casters.
I replaced my EV's with eminence Kappalite 3015 a year ago and the difference is astounding. they are friggin amazing.
heads and shoulders WAY above the stock EVs, In tone and weight. The upgrade for that box is already complete, I'd be stoked.
I use 2 of them and it is plenty enough for any room.
The 2nd one I found (on bottom) I got for $100. crappy jbl speaker, no cover, really beat up (I think it was a rental at one point).

The speaker concerns me and the overall rough condition. I think it does have the cover and casters. Definately the cover. I'll have to look at it again.

I'm such a noob.

I'm such a noob. | thats just a dust cover for the speaker cone.
sounds like an old eminence spkr. I'm an eminence n00b, so I digress.
There ain't no way the cab is more beat than mine. It's REALLY bad w/scratches and rust.
"never judge a book..." tho...and they certainly are bomb proof, that may be why it looks like it does.
offer $200 in cash - out the door. (if it's as worn as you say)

The 2x10 alone had more guts than a 4x10
Wonderful, well made cabinets. Can't speak highly enough of them |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jan 2011 Location: Micco Florida | | | So I popped on this cab today after looking at it for weeks. Brought my amp in and checked out and it sounded good, no rattles or farting out, at least at halfway on my GK 700RBII. Ended up getting it for 200 out the door. Brought it home it really sounds killer, BIG lows. I pulled the speaker out to see what the heck had been put in there and it is an Eminence Kilomax Pro. I know there is a lot of calculations into what speaker will work in what box and there are programs that some of you have to figure this for you.
So I guess the question I have is am I better off keeping this speaker in here or selling it and replacing with a Kappalite 3015LF before prices get to crazy? Other than the lighter weight what is there going to be a real gain made in switching the 2?
