I absolute love my Walkabout head. I play my Cirrus through it and they go through an SWR 610 Senior. After trying just about every amp/cab there is, it's ONLY Mesa amps and SWR cabs for me. I like the hybrids, too. It's Mesa best achievement, in my opinion.
That being said, I also LOVE my M3 and M6 (which I sold to buy the M3). Live, there was no other amp like the M6. It sounded better than any amp on the market. Probably always will. BUT, direct for recording a CD, the Walkabout is the undisputed king.
My main rig now is my Walkabout head thru the SWR 610. My M3 just sits. As for the Mesa combos, the 4 ohm Scout is amazing. The 8 ohm Scout was useless to me, sadly to say.
I can only imagine how awesome the M3 combo sounds. I wonder if it's an 8 or 4 ohm version. I have yet to see one in person, aside from youtube in Germany at some music store. My instinct tells me that the M3 would be a more versatile and louder combo.
Any opinions ?

I love the gooey tone of the WA head, I just didn't like the Scout's handling, the M's cab was much better at handling what I wanted to hear. |

Mine is a 4 ohm speaker and I use it mainly for practice. It's a very simple, powerful and good sounding rig. After reading some reviews I had some reservations that it would sound really hi-fi - and it will do that tone all day - but turn the tweet off and give it some pre-gain and you can get the classic rock and fingerstyle tones with no problem. |

Any opinions ? | Why is an 8 ohm WA ' useless' to you ? Ime, the 12" scout can't handle any more watts than the WA @ 8 ohms puts into it, & the 8 ohm scout is easy to add another cab to-for a 4 ohm load.
I totally understand that it's YOUR p opinion, but just wondering???
Totally agree-the WA rules well 'ard tho :-)

No difference at all to my ears, in volume or tone. They both compress/surrender before full output, although the 8 Ohm can obviously take more rotation on the master and gain. As far as the M3 goes-sounds just like the 6 and 9 flat, with much less eq flexibility and fewer flowing electrons. At about 60 lbs, the M3 combo doesn't do anything for me. YMMV

Using the Walkabout with a 2x12 for bass guitar, and the M3 with a 2x10 for synth. What do you want to know?

I'm not an 'amp tech expert' and in looking at these, just trying to determine the main differences.
My priorities are in order....
*300-500W - at least 12" speaker
*Reliability/Build Quality/Customer Svc
*Sound (I have a 4001 Rick and Hofner 500/1 - both with flats (go for Motown, Classic C&W, 50's-60's Pop/Rock)
*Portability
*Expansion/Versatility (adding cabs) and quality DI
*Dislike (compression, tuner, effects, gimmicks, any features for 'active' or 5+ string basses)
(headphone jack ok though)
------------
Would even appreciate any other contenders to these amps.
Thanks!
