mesa m6 carbine vs bass 400

Hopefully this is my last inquiry for a while. I'm new to bass rigs and am trying to build one. Originally I was planning on an m6 but then found a bass 400 locally... What would you do?

What are you hoping to achieve in terms of sound? volume? portability? purpose?

I would go for the tube head. If you have never played one, then you owe it to yourself to try one.

From what I understand, they are very different sounding rigs. Try them both out if you can and decide which one better suits your sound and your needs

Assuming it is reasonably priced and has no problems, the 400. If it was cheap enough and had problems, I'd still take the 400. Plenty loud, but it does also turn down if you don't need plenty loud. I'm assuming you aren't looking for an amp you can put in your shirt pocket while you skateboard to your gigs, since the M6 isn't in that weight class either. For a real amp, it's not heavy. Easier to move than most cabs, except the little cardboard one you'd sling over your shoulder while you skateboarded to your gig.

Just my opinion, but then I generally like what everybody else hates and haven't had a gig since my skateboard broke.

Personally, I would choose the M6 over the 400. I'm not a big fan of the tube amp vibe and, if I only had one amp, greatly prefer the quickness and bite of more modern SS heads. That said, the Carbine will get a pretty large low end, is smooth through the mids, and has a very surprising range of tones hidden in there.
