I went to a Local (ish) music store to pick up a Mesa M9 I demo'ed last week. They sold it but ordered one right up for me and let me take home their floor M6 to use until it shows up. What great service from a small shop!! Suck it Guitar Center!
I'm a G-K guy through and through and have been playing a 1001RB since I started gigging and dig the attack over the pillow and girth of my M-Pulse 600. I plugged the M6 into the same cabinets I had been running my G-K through for reference.
The M6 has a lot going for it! First and foremost, the setup is simple as could be. Less knobs to twiddle to get a killer sound. I played my G&L ASAT through it to see what it was all about. It's a great mix of M-Pulse girth and G-K attack. The voice control is killer. I started flat and bumped it over to the first mid boost voice setting which gave it a nice low mid bark and push. Very attacky and quick compared to the M-Pulse while maintaining a strong bottom and push. It literally took me 30 seconds to set it up. It's not quite as clean as the G-K and maybe not as "focused" but sounds, to me, to be more musical and useful tonally. The G-K has a great sound IMO but the M6 is just larger all around. I had the gain around 12:00 and the master at 8:00... plenty loud for my space! No dirt as the gain was turned up, it eventually broke up a bit around 2:00-3:00. Tons of clean headroom in this thing. I've got dirt pedals if I want it and would rather have a wide clean sound.
The M6 is a powerful, quick and musical sounding amp. Now that I've played with it I'm not sure I need to M9 by any stretch. I won't kick it out of bed though. If you're on the wall on the M6, just do it!! |

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...now I need to try an M6.
Darn you!

It's everything the M6 is, but has a compressor (whcih I find quite usable) and the graphic EQ, which is fun to play with and can be very handy. Snag the M9 - you won't regret it.

| | | | My M9 has seriously killed my amp GAS. It portable, insanely loud and easy to use, but aside from the perks, it simply sounds better then any other rig I have ever owned. My Walkabout isn't going anywhere but between these two, I am a happy camper!

(I have the M6, and right now I'm on a speaker search.)

Have you seen this?: YouTube - Mesa Engineering Powerhouse Bass Cabs Demo - Part 1
I've been using my recently-acquired M6 with 2 Powerhouse 1x12s and I am in heaven. It's a rig recommended by the Mesa guy in the video. Wicked loud, but a manageable stack size, or just bring one cab for a small gig, making it super-portable.
My GAS is fading away as well... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
