Angry Mesa M9 Carbine Protection mode problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I am currently using a Mesa M9 Carbine and Powerhouse 1200 cabinet configuration. My stuff hasn't been played lately until now. The two most recent times I've played with it, everthing is fine. Then all of the sudden, the amp just completely drops out. Then usually 10 seconds or so later, it come back and then stops again. I don't think I'm driving it near it's full capacity.Master set at twelve o'clock, gain at like 2 or 2 and a half. I also notice the light on the compresser lighting up a lot. I forget how it's set though. Everything in the preamp section is at twelve o'clock. It's driving me (and my bandmates) nuts. I haven't had the amp that long and never had problems when I gigged with it before. I did just retube it recently. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks,
Rich

Put your old tubes back in and see it anything changes. Try linking you effects send and return with a signal cable and see what happens.

Edit: Active bass? Replace your battery.

And control positions are generally meaningless, because we don't know how much signal your bass is hitting the amp with.

Sounds like a tube problem or a power-line problem.

There's only one preamp tube in there.

At those settings, my M9 would be breaking everything in the room. At a *loud* gig, I run mine with input gain at noon, and master volume a 9 oclock. I seriously can't imagine every using your gain settings.

Mesa customer service is really good. I'd call them, pronto.

Amen. I like it loud, but I know how loud mine is with the gain at 1-ish and the master at 9... my ears hurt just thinking about it.

Make sure you had the ohm selector set properly for your speaker load

FWIW, I had a similar issue with my M6 going into protect mode on 2 different gigs. I realized that each time I had connected my surge protector to one of the club's cheap power strips that couldn't supply enough current to my M6. I was running my amp hard both times as well. I now make sure to bypass any house owned power strips and plug my 12A rated surge protector directly into a wall outlet. I haven't had the issue since...
