MESA M9 - What cab?!

Sign in to disble this ad
Heyy TBers!

This is a simple question. What cab would you use with a Mesa Carbine M9?! I'll get the head soon enough, and I need a good cab, with great low end and punch!

I have a Spector Rebop that I love, and right now, I use SVT 4 Pro with a 410HLF. I like it, but it still miss something for me!
Our original music sounds a bit like Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, Sick Puppies, etc. And our cover part are everything from the 60s to now! Stuff like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zep, ACDC, Nirvana, Metallica, Blink 182, Green Day, etc.

It has to be loud! =) What would you use? I've used a Gallien Krueger 115RBH and was wondering if 2 of those would work? If not, what else?!

For me, nothing tops a fEarful or similar 2 or 3 way cab with the 3015 super woofer.

The Berg NVs match up well with the M6 and M9. They keep the big low end of those heads tight and punchy and also compliment the top end very well.

I use a Mesa Powerhouse 412 with my M9 and it really is insane! So much available volume, punch and low end. I can literally drown out our hard hitting drummer.

Love mine with my Genz Benz cabs, especially the NEOX-212T... a pair of those are incredible.

+1 on the PH412 I run my M-9 thru 2 PH410's and it will melt your face I think my Mesa rig with my Sadowsky P/J5 was meant to be.

Whatever cab you choose, I'd suggest making it a big one- 4x12 6x10, 8x10, even a 2x15. Wouldn't waste my time with that much power into a small cab.

The guy I bought my PH412 from had an M9. Sounded killer and had tons of power. You won't be disappointed.

I recently spent some time with a 15/6/1 cab and the M6, and I tell you what, while not totally my thing personally, that is an AMAZING match-up. With the tweeter off (since the Carbines are so massively goosed up top), that rig had beautiful top end presence and grind when you pushed it a bit.

The other thing with the M6/M9 is a rather uncontrolled low end (i.e., either no hi passing, or the hi pass set extremely low), which can really stress a 'normal cab'. That 3015LF just TOOK that big, wide bottom, and turned it IMO into something very musical and usable... round, big, fat, but not tubby. And, the M6 had plenty of power at 8ohms to drive that cab to stupid volumes. I would assume the M9 with the extra EQ and the bit more power would be simply amazing with the various 15/6 builds.

+1 all the way on that combo.... one of the best matches I've heard, with both pieces of gear bringing the best out of each other (i.e., the 15/6 smoothing the top end and controlling the low end of the Carbine, and the Carbine providing enough power and low end ooomph at 8ohms to really make use of that amazing driver!).

I can't believe how good this head sounds with my Sadowsky (Berg) SA410. Absolutely amazing.

I have a 4x10 and a 2x10 so that I'm covered for smaller and bigger shows. The 4x10 even on it's own is amazing. I'm sure the 4x12 would not disappoint you. If you have the funds I'd certainly suggest either one of those.

I would suggest the ph810. I just got one and there no sound this thing couldn't cover. I currently run an Ampeg pro4, and it gives me a back massage when I stand in front of it and hit a low B.

For a medium size cab, I also have a single Powerhouse 8 ohm 410 and there is no lack of headroom or grunt with the M9 at 8 ohms. I really do prefer the PH412 to the 410 as the 12's really have an open and balanced tone with tons of growly mids. The 410 tone is a tad more scooped in the mids but I think a PH810 would easily keep me happy if I didn't have the 412. The 412 weighs about 60 pounds less then the 810 though.

+1

I have found a 4 ohm 410 + an 8 ohm 210, both with the same drivers, builder, and cabinet philosophy/quality makes for a very flexible set of rigs.

I regularly use my M9 with either an Epifani UL1 210, UL1 410, or both together as a 610. Don't forget the M9 is 2 ohm capable.
