OK I have a Mesa 400+ I've been using for years. I went to the pawn shop and saw my buddies 400+. I got this one for 800.00 it has brand new Ruby tubes and Telefunkin preamp tubes. My buddie traded it for a basket case bike. He wants to get rid of his Peavey Classic 400 that has just been retubed and is in A1 shape and sounds great. I don't have the cash and he said that he would trade me the Mesa back for the Peavey. I love the Mesa's and collect them but this seems like a really good offer since the Peaveys are so hard to come by. I would still have my 400+ and the Peavey instead of 2 400+'s. What do you guys think about the deal?

They're not particularly sought after, and much harder to sell than a 400+. Monetarily it is not a good deal. That said, if you can try it first and really love it, it might be worth it to you anyway. I had to practically give my Peavey away for 1/3rd of what I paid for it, after several months of trying to sell it. My 400+ sold overnight for twice that amount.
Realize that it weighs more than your car, and only goes down to 4 Ohms. Seems to be particular about what power tubes it has in it, while in my experience a 400+ will work and sound good with just about any 6L6 type tube (brand or mix of brands) that isn't broken.
Disclaimer: I'm not saying the 400+ will run at its best with mismatched, out of spec tubes. But it will run. It may not sound its best either - but will still sound quite good.

| | | | You couldn't pay me to own a Peavy. I can't stand them. Mesa on the other hand, I love. There is no way in heck I would do the deal you are wanting to do.

| | | | I love my Mesa's that's why I picked the second one up as a back up and as I get the money I will keep collecting more of them. I really have hated every Peavey that I have heard but, this head is great sounding and that is the only reason that I considered it. I played it through a Eden 410 and it was great. I don't know much about them so that's why I asked for everyone's input and thanks for your help.
