Mesa Powerhouse 1000

Turning to the TB community once again for a little opinion insight. I currently own and use a Mesa Powerhouse 610 cabinet paired with a Peavey Tour 450 head and I play mostly a rock sound. Recently I came across a used however in great shape Mesa Powerhouse 1000 cabinet at a Guitar Center. This cabinet is even road ready (mine is not but no big deal). So my question is does anyone know how the PH1000 compares to the PH610? Or what is some of your opinions of the PH1000? Would the 1000 be a good replacement of the 610 in my main gig rig? I have checked out the Mesa demo videos on YouTube of their cab's, however just want to know what others have to say. The 1000 is marked at a pretty reasonable price too IMO.

Hmmm... Powerhouse and Road Ready are two different series. The Road Ready cabs are a bit older, so keep in mind that the price should reflect this.

It's a serious cab to be sure - but is your 610 lacking something? Personally, I'd upgrade your head before replacing the cab. I also think you'll be underpowering the 1000 with the Tour 450.

Thanks for your post. Both my cab and the 1000 are Powerhouse cabs, I believe what they mean by road ready here is it is in a case. My 610 is not lacking and to be honest sounds great with my 450. I am more just asking how a the 1000 would compare to my 610. If I did happen to buy it I would keep my 610 too. I have been looking at a new head too, but like I said what I have now is working out well.

Funny that you should mention that - when I bought my PH610, it was sitting along side of a PH1000, so I compared the 2 quite a bit before buying the PH610... Furthermore, another local bassist also has the PH1000, and used his amp thru my PH610 at an opener for us one time - he told me afterwards that his cab didn't compare to the PH610, and that his bandmates agreed...

IME, the 610 is clearer voiced, will get lower and deeper, and is louder - it's just plain a much better cab than either the PH1000 or 1200... I think you'd regret making such a move, to be honest...

I'm currently thinking about selling my PH610, but only because I'm using my PH810 almost exclusively - and if I do, I'll be replacing the 610 with another big Mesa cab... FWIW, the 1000 or 1200 aren't even being considered for my 610's replacement - it's narrowed down to either the 215 or the 412, with me leaning towards the 412...

Thanks for the insight George. I'll defiantly be sticking with my PH610. I had a bit of motive to possibly looking into the 1000 further. However then after reading what you typed and then realized how truly happy I am with my 610 and how it always brings it, gets the job done, and never lets me down. I walked away from the idea of the 1000. Just a little burst of G.A.S that was short lived (the sounds funny I know). I believe I will put that money I would of spent towards a upgrade on a head or another bass down the road.

I recently seen a guy on eBay selling a Mesa PH412 for $750 I believe it was and it was basically in new condition too. He was looking for local pickups only and I forgot where we was located. It might still be on there for sale.

Yeah I wouldn't do that swap either. Plus, the RoadReady cabs are seriously just absurdly hard to move around. Unless you only use a trailer w/ ramp to move from gig to gig and have no stairs or stages to get up onto!

I would recommend upgrading your head to the Tour 700 well before purchasing a new cab. The PH610 is a SOLID cab. I personally really want to upgrade to one.

This isn't entirely true. Originally the powerhouse was just a model. The 4x10+1x15 cabinet with the 15 in the middle instead of on the bottom.
So an older "powerhouse" can come in deisel or roadready. Or a newer powerhouse can be anything from a 15" to an 8x10. About as confusing as the Sterling EBMM and the Sterling by Sterling by Musicman branding.
