mesa powerhouse 4x10.....at last

I have been thru a ton of gear trying to find a tone on electric bass that puts a smile on my face. I play upright most the time and my electric bass rigs have been upright type rigs. Usually acoustic image and EA amps. My cabs have been vl108's, wizzy m-line. While those rigs sounded really nice none of them quite did it for me on electric bass.

I then got a LMII and paired that with those cabs and also tried a tc electronics 2x12. The LMII has a good tone and paired well with all those cabs. Volume was not a problem with any of those setups but they all just seemed to lack a little something.

I have been reluctant to try out some of the heavier cabs mostly because by doing research here on TB it seemed that buying a heavy cab was kinda stupid because there are so many light weight cabs that would do the job.

None of those cabs even come close to the girth and deep sound the mesa powerhouse 4x10 has. I'm not talking volume but pure tone. Even at low volumes that cab sounds great.

Not really trying to do a the mesa blows away those other cabs thing here. I realize all those cabs are different beasts. I guess my point is that i had been dismissing some of the bigger/heavy cabs when i've been cab shopping here in the classifieds.

This is a older powerhouse cab with just 1/4 inputs not the newer one they have out now. It is heavy but well worth it. Got it off the local craigslist for $250.

Just thought i would spread some love for mesa cabs and maybe help someone who has been thru alot of cabs that is still searching for there tone.

I play a roadready 4x10 myself and I love it.

I've had it for 5+ years now and its incredibly durable and the sound is outrageous.

Heavy, but IMO, totally worth the time spent loading and unloading.

Mesa makes some awesome stuff. Super heavy, but the tone is stellar!

Mesa cabs are great! I picked up a 4x10 for $150 last summer. Makes a nice match for the 2x10 I have.

I was looking at that same piece just yesterday, heck of a deal. Now just get to the gym and get on a weight training program and you'll be ready to roll

Those old Diesel/RoadReady designs are just crushing. Both in volume and attack, and for your back! Good luck and congrats!

I played powerhouse twice, using P Road Worn and Warwick Corvette 5, both times thru 400+ head. It's a killer cab. I couldn't stop playing

I have a Powerhouse 412 and a pair of Powerhouse 115 cabs and I have been through a tone of gear over the last few years. Nothing has compared to these cabs for sheer gorgeous tone. I even sold off my Epifani UL-410 because I just never used it when compared to the mesa cabs, well it just didn't compare!

If I was gigging regularly and taking a cab with me all the time, the super lightweight 1000 watt Epi was hard to beat and it certainly sounded good, but the tone I get from these two Mesa rigs is just so much more pleasing to my ears.

You got a fantastic deal on the Mesa 4q10. They cost a grand new up here in Canada!

Does anyone know the frequency response specks for the powerhouse 4x10T vs. powerhouse 4x10 deep? (Also the powerhouse 1x15) Mesa doesn't have any of these specs on their site. Thanks

Yup - been gigging a PH610 for a few years now, and it's still going strong:

where are you guys finding Mesa 4x10 so cheap? I see their 15" cabs for cheap all the time. But the 4x10 and 6x10 just refuse to drop in price! At least on my areas craigslist.

See, I'd love to pick up a pair of their 115s or a 215 for a good price, but never see any in my area...

I absolutely love my Mesa PowerHouse 6x10 cabinet! Solid built, amazing tone, overall clear, loud, and beastly sound, and is just cool looking. I also bought it at a very nice price which of course does not hurt either. Sure it is heavy, however I don't worry about that once I start playing through it, just when the gig is over and it's time to load up again . Mesa/Boogie makes some of the best stuff. Congrats on your find/buy too OP.

If you turn up the active mids and passive mids you will be able to turn up the low end and it will not be flubby ,it will be tight and still have that powerfull bass thump. The 12 and the 15 are great speakers but not as fast as a 10 for me personally, I was playing metal and classic hard rock with a Mesa BB750.

mpdd,
When I was trying out both cabs I prefered the PH2X12 myself. It seemed a little smoother but still kicked. I don't think you could go wrong with either.
