Mesa vs. Genz Benz 212's

Sign in to disble this ad
I need help out here and need to buy one of these real soon.
Please listen to 'New Track(Preview)' on - www.myspace.com/rosemaryprofile , and suggest according to that bass tone..

Deep rumbly lows with cuttin high mids, around 1.5k, scouped at 625hz, smooth round top.

I have a Mesa Bass 400 to drive any of the cabs.

Thanks in advance.

Hey suraj.

Since we've discussed this one a bit, you already know where I stand on this issue. I feel confident that other Uber 212 users will tell you the same.

Also if you can get the Genz cab for the price you mentioned to me then do it annd don't look back. That's less than what I paid for une here in the U.S. Furthermore, the price you mentioned on the Mesa cab is about $100 more than they go for here in the states. With the price difference between the two cabinets effectively eliminated, I would say that the Uber 212 is the clear winner.

Hopefully someone else will chime in on this as well.

In the end, they're both great cabinets and you probably can't go wrong either way. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell whether one of them is the "it" cab for you without being able to play them.

Hey, both the prices i told you about are from two different places. Mesa's with taxes and the GB is without.. Plus there's a discount on the GB so their coming up to the same price.

I think im gonna pull the trigger on the Genz thanks to you and rickenboogie
The only thing that kinda holds me back is cuz i've heard, Mesa is good for hard rock, and genz does the round thick sound for blues and what not.

I just need a few more opinions

Mesa voices thier speakers for mesa amps.
However, in your case the diesel series was made for the 400+ voicing... specifically the 215 (although the 210 and 115 and 410 also sound amazing with the head)
I have the PH412 and the 400+ still sounds amazing but it seems voiced a little different because through my Titan is sounds like a complete caged animal.
The Uber series speakers are amazing, personally I think you flip a coin and end up VERY happy either way.

Basically i need a 212 with massive tight low end, which hits the chest, and very very present upper mids.

Listen to the song "Deadwing" by Porcupine Tree. I want that bass tone..!! The high mid bell like presence with the tight deep low end is very prominent in the verses.. (Tone at 2:14)

im getting a very similar tone with extensive EQ on my Mesa bass 400 going into the Hartke HyDrive 410..but the amount of volume it puts out is unacceptable..!!

So which of the cabs would be better for that..?? Any 212 as i've fixed on 12's after playing a 4x12 guitar cab..!!

The coin says Genz Benz...!! I have only one shot at this..!!
Buying things from the USA and waiting for people to get it to me in India just takes too long.. So i cant go wrong again after the HyDrive 410..!!

That's right, you can't lose here, as BOTH are amazing cabs. I've used Mesa deisel cabs, (love 'em) Mesa Powerhouse cabs, (great, but not for me, they were 10's), Ampeg Classic series cabs, (great with an all tube ampeg head, less so with others), and have fallen head over heels in love with my Uber 212. I think you'll be more than happy with an Uber under that head. Have fun with it.

Thanks so much for all your responses
RickenBoogie, do you happen to have a lil sound clip or a recording of your original hard rock band..??

Doesn't matter if you've not used the GB in that, just wanna know exactly for what kinda music are you in love with the GB. Hopefully im playing similar music...

Here's one for you, I use a Mesa Powerhouse 212 4ohm and a GB Shuttle 6.0. Go Figure.

To be fair, GB didn't have a fair chance due to avail.

Sorry, I don't currently. It's all in my digital 12 track, and un-finished. But my former band has a MySpace page with soundclips, Lost Souls, Inc. But that doesn't represent the music I'm playing now. Still, something you've never heard.

the PH 2x12 is my current dream cab. If anyone who has a mesa bass 400(+) doesnt like that cab I would think they might be better off with another amp. Its sounds fat as hell and pretty effortless.

I've got an almost similar set up but I have the shuttlemax 12

i've also got a powerhouse 410 and 115 with the 212.

The cab matchup is a Goliath VS Goliath battle.
