Mesa Walkabout vs GK Fusion 550 - Best Tubey Tone ??

Sign in to disble this ad
Was wondering if anybody who has had any experience with either one or even both, can tell me which one will give you the best warm, fat, tube driven sound but can also do a nice clean punchy tone if required.

Thanks.

Tubey

Dont forget the Eden WT 550......great tube tone and warmth..plus a very powerful EQ section.

Ive got both and they are very different. WA can give you a modernish sound if you roll the passive mids all the way down but really excels at warm, midrange rich beefy tones and can sound very tubey. The fusion is GK all the way, wide and sparkly but a bit warmer than the rest of their line. Can give you a cool growl to your notes but still sounds SS.
WA=warm,tubey
Fusion= wide and sparkly, GK growl

So for your description, Walkabout

Can't help with the Mesa, I gig the Fusion 550. Grew up with tube amps and the Fusion satisfies all my needs. Always amazed at the variety of different voices I can get with little effort.

The Mesa is dead-on tube tone. I honestly can't tell the difference.

Easy, it's the Mesa. I've owned and gigged both for over a year. I actually prefer to run a Sansamp in front of the GK, perfect blend of crunch, punch, and warmth.

I've always felt the Eden was ultra clean and modern even though it has a tube in there - correct ??

I've only ever test driven the Fusion, and though it was certainly a nice sounding amp, the Walkabout is THE tubiest sounding hybrid amp ever made.
