Anyone have any tips on how to get a tone what sounds along the lines of Meshuggah? I play a 6 string tuned F#BEADG. And I play thu an svt 3 pro/classic 4X10 cab. I also use a sansamp bass di,dbx compressor and a sonic stomp. thx

are you playing with a pick, or finger style? |

| | | | The bass tone is pretty awesome actually, even if the band is just about the guitars.

the bass is about 70% of their tone. watch the bass and drum vid, that is what convinced me. |

| | | | Don't know why they call it a bass solo. It sounds like one of the usual songs without guitars and vocals. I am in fact a Meshuga fan . Listened to them since 90 at least.

Distortion up so it's just clipping on a hard plectrum-attack, turn up the lower and high mids, have the bass and treble around default setting (trying to avoid an overly muddy/glassy tone), have the bridge pickup mostly solo'd and play near the bridge. Harsh attack and palm muting are your friends.

That tone woudl be a cinch to nail with a decent Rat box. pretty much all controls at about 2 oclock.
And is it just me or are drums solos like that the most unmusical things that you can do with a musical instrument?

I dig it too(even though I never own one), but I do dig the grinding distortion sound it delivers. |
