Meyer Sound and Anthony Jackson

Somehow I have tried to search and I can't find enough content of what AJ is/has use/d as far as a Meyers rig.

I'm curious about what Meyer product, maybe what pre he was using in conjunction. It would be cool to see pix of his rig too.

Are there other bassists out there that play through Meyers? Doesn't Lesh and Mike Gordon use them?

I am also curious and I wonder if it is one of the powered cabinets with a Millenia pre... Either way, the prices are far out of my reach!

Lesh and Gordon do use Meyer gear. I've played through Mike's rig, it's amazing. The bottom end is quick and profound.

I seem to recall that AJ is going direct into the Meyer gear with no preamp. His onboard electronics apparently have the output to drive them directly.

Well, .3 seconds with Google gave me this:

I'll bet Prockenklang could flesh out the details.

Meyer is based here in the East Bay. I have a friend who used to work there. He has a custom 2x12 they made as a prototype for a small line arrray or something. he uses it with the horn removed, the blank spot filled in with wood and fiberglass. Sounds great.
Meyer is truly leading edge. They make a cardiod subwoofer!

I think AJ even records with his. Didnt he use to use the UAP1?

According to that article the Man himself moves his stuff.
Anthony even said that this setup saves his back the trouble he had before w separate components.

Yowza.

Last time I saw Anthony live, he was using a borrowed Bergantino HT210 rig with a Millenia pre and power amp. He sounded like Anthony

His bass doesn't have any electronics, just a pickup wired directly to the jack. I saw him live last week and he was running his Millenia pre through a power amp I didn't recognize (some slick-looking half-rack setup) into an Epifani 410.

+1 Like most other freelance bassists, I'm sure he mostly uses provided backline.

I've heard that sometimes he uses a Krell pwramp with a Millennia pre for unpowered speakers.

Any TB ever gig/try a Millennia with a CQ-1 or other Meyers rig? I know it's a long shot...

I've seen AJ both with his Meyers rig and playing through a Trace Elliot 410 (forgot what head was driving it) at the same venue. No doubt the Meyers was pristine, but the Trace rig gave the tone a nice bit of oompf that suited the music well. With the Meyers, there was a lot more detailed high end...(super-high freq's like string noise).

That's part of the problem playing out of a PA type cab with no attenuator for the top end, etc. I never found it that pleasing myself with bass guitar.

me neither. doesn't matter what kind of music i play...if i hear anything higher than 5-6k, it annoys me.

and i know anthony will cringe if he sees this, but i still think the best sound he ever had was with that "cheap" jazz bass on those old o'jays recordings

I don't mind the tip top end of the treble, but I sure want to be able to control it with an attenuator if it is coming out of a big PA horn!

And... I'm kind of with you on Anthony's tone, although I like the early Fodera tone also. I just finally received his new solo CD, and am looking forward to given that a spin at high volume tonight!

Sting's rig actually uses Clair Brothers cabs (a pair of 1x18's and a pair of 12" 2-way boxes) and they're only for stage volume (he never mics the rig but instead uses DI's off his bass and his Alembic F1-X preamp).

AJ's Meyer rig serves a slightly different purpose: to capture the sound of studio monitors at performance volume, be it on stage or in the studio.

Don't worry, it won't be long before somebody swears by a short stack of line array cabinets for bass and we'll finally have a rig that costs more than a Dumble.

.... kind of off topic, but I just dropped off some gear today during lunch for a Hard Rock Ballet gig I have this evening (I'm not wearing tights, just playing bass), and I discovered the whole house system (monitors and fronts) is outfitted with Meyer Sound.
