Micro Power Amps?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm wondering if a product like this exists.

I would love a power amp just like the new GK MB200 but power amp only.

Basically I want a power amp small enough to sit on top of an Ampeg SVT210AV (the Ampeg Micro cab) that I can plug the line out of my Tronographic Rusty Box into and have that be a standalone rig.

Does something like this exist? And if not is it just a matter of time before it does?

YES!! TB comes through again.

That will work. Thank you!!

I missed that, I had seen the Headlite and actually seen that too but didn't realize it was a power amp....or I just forgot.

Nice...a little costly but that is actually perfect for my idea.It will sit perfectly on top of the SVT210AV. I love that cab.

I have the Micro-VR/SVT210AV setup already...I want to get a second micro cab and have the option of using both at 4ohms or when I'm not using both cabs together, I'm going to set up one SVT210AV with the power amp on top of it and my Tronographic Rusty Box on top of the power amp as a pre and effectively have a third amp/rig.

I got this idea because I tried plugging the line out of the Rusty Box straight into the Micro-VR's effects return jack and it sounded great.

Sweet!!

Great man!
I love those cleverly constructed set-ups that fit ones needs perfectly. Shows you're a creative mind. I've had a few of those aswell.
Now I've settled for a Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout combo. But I also have the Micro VR and a cab to go with it and thinking of getting me a second one.
I love the Mosfet power sections of both the Mesa Boogie and the Micro VR. Real sweet sound.

or .. you could just do the GK itself and use it as a power amp. I do that on occcaision with it's cousin the MB2-500 ... options, choices, life is all about choices ...

I have the SWR Headlite, purchased for use mainly as a Taurus pedal amp, but its now finding plenty of use as a small gig & practice amp.
Its almost unbelievable just how much power & tone shaping they can cram in to such a small & light weight package. My only gripe is that the chrome control knob settings are hard to see, even in good light.
I use it to drive a 15" EV speaker in an old Sonic cab, and I may get the Amplite power amp & a 2x10" cab for use at mid-size venues.
SWR has made a great line of highly portable bass player's tools with the Headlite, Amplite & Golight series.

True, and I thought about that...but the Rusty Box is really more of a pre than a pedal...it runs on 30V and has a line out for a power amp and a main out if used as a pedal. I'd really like a setup that lets the the RB shine on its own

Yeah, I love the Micro-VR like crazy and for awhile I was GASing for a Walkabout. I like what Mesa offers for bass amps....they have some interesting tube power amps that would probably open up a whole bunch of ideas.

Use the effects return... On the mb2-500, the Master still works... After testing mine a bunch, using my Avalon U5 as the front end, It was a toss up for me... The GK is a lot less colored thwn I expected. Mine is the A07 version which was the last revision prior to the re-badging as MB500. Nice thing about that approach is that you have a backup front end and DI in the event your Rusty Box is sent off for a mod or something.

Thanks, good thoughts there.

That was my first idea actually but then I learned the MB200 does not have an effects loop. The MB500 is a little too big to sit on the Ampeg 2x10 and it's price is the same as the Amplite.

Oh, that seems awkward ? You mos def would not appreciate that my U5 DI, is actually bigger than my bass amp

Odd form factor,
insides are made by power soft,
switchable power supply voltages.
