Micro VR Soundclip

There has been a lot of interest in the Micro VR heads (or at least there was).

I picked one up along with two of the 210 cabs a while back. I really like it so far, and decided to record the bass track on my band's next song with it. I thought I'd post what I have, so people can see what this little beast sounds like.

This track is recorded with my Ibanez ATK 305. The signal was taken from the DI on the head, into a Pod XT (acting as a USB interface). I recorded through Reaper and added the SVX 810 cabinet emulator. I don't have any microphones (too much of a hassle) so I won't be doing any direct recording from the 210 cabinets.

I didn't tool around with any EQ or anything in Reaper yet, waiting for the other tracks to finish up. There's quite a bit of string buzz, but I'm hoping most of that will drown out when the other tracks get mixed in.

Drums are SD2.0.

I don't remember where I had the knobs set on the head, but they weren't too far off from the noon positions all around... Maybe 1:00 for gain, 12:30 for bass, noon-ish for the mids and I think I cut back a bit on the treble. EQ on the bass was set pretty much all around just a hair above the center position on all three eq knobs.

I have one, too. I like the sound a lot. With the mids boosted, it has the perfect punchy picked sound. And it's a no brainer to mic, just stick a large condenser on the top speaker and I get a beautiful sound.

I like it with guitar as well.

Were the other tracks on your profile also recorded using the Micro-VR?

No, the other tracks on there were recorded clean through a Pod XT (no amp sim or effects), then were processed through SVX using various settings.
