Mid-Priced Amp Matrix

Sign in to disble this ad
I have put together a small amount of data in a spreadsheet here:

Mid-Priced Bass Amp Matrix

If you see any obvious errors, or are unable to access it, please let me know.

Some caveats:

1. I left out some brands simply because they didn't interest me.
2. For "mid-priced", I arbitrarily picked a range approximately between $300 and $800.
3. Para actually means "semi-parametric". None of these amps have true parametric EQ.
4. Don't make any purchasing decisions without doing your own research.

I will try to update it from time to time. If there is an amp that you want to see added, or perhaps a feature column to be added, send me a PM or bump this thread and I will try to get to it.

If I had it to do over again, I probably would have left out Marshall, Peavey, Tech21, and Warwick.

That's why I always buy used. Your matrix would grow significantly.

Cool stuff...

I'm actually in this market for something along these lines right now... right now my rig is an old pre-Fender SWR Bass 350 into an old non-neo Avatar 212. Nothing WRONG with it per say, just not really doing it for me anymore. Plan to replace the head first, then possibly replace the cab, maybe with a Fearful-type multiway.

One possibility I've been considering is going the pre+power amp route, which can be competitive at these price ranges, perhaps. Something like

http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....tor?sku=480223

into:

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com...Amp?sku=481564
$499, 900w into 8ohms, 1400 into 4.

The two combined come in just over $800. Could drop down to about half the power and get it down about $650

Added a handy "Search TalkBass" column. It is the next to last (column AA).

Nice work. While I don't think that's an exhaustive list, it's certainly useful. I especially like the "Search TalkBass" column.

It is only exhaustive for the brands listed and in the range $300 to $800.

I left out:

Acoustic
Bugera
Epifani
Line 6

Behringer and Kustom fall below the $300 cutoff.

Aguilar, EBS, Fender, Mesa Boogie, Orange, and Traynor are all above the $800 limit.
