Mids with Hartke rig (5500 head + 215 vx cab)

'Morning.

I generally like the sound I'm getting from my set-up. The only issue I have with it is that I can't seem to find a good settings that allows me to cut through (band: 2 guitars + drummer + me). I've toyed around with the EQ and can't seem to get it right. I get really good lows, of course.

I'm guessing that the two 15" speakers and cheap basses (Peavey Grinds, 4 & 5 str, which are fun to play) have a good part in this, but changing cabs and basses ain't an option for now. Also, our studio is cozy (15' x 15') and has a really low ceiling (6'1"), which probably doesn't help either. Changing that ain't an option either.

So my question is this: can anyone recommend good cutting-through settings for this set-up ? I play rock, blues and a little funk.

I did a search and found quite a few hartke threads, but saw none discussing this.

Thx.

I have this cab and I find that it has strong low end but isn't strong in the mids. Obviously, you've tried boosting the mids in the EQ. Does it sound the same in a different setting, i.e on a stage vs in your studio? Maybe try different positions in the room, or put it on some kind of stand off the floor?

Thx for the reply. Haven't used it on stage yet, unfortunately, so I can't tell. Did try different studio positions, no noticeable improvement.
