Mini Rig + Tube Head?

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, I've gone to a mini rig for my band that plays a variety of styles ranging from blues, country, new orleans, rock, etc. Right now, I'm running a GK MB2500 into 2 GK Neo112's. Nice rig and really punchy and full for such portability.

However (isn't there always) I can't get the sound of the Sadowsky SA-200 I played while buying my Will Lee at Sadowsky last month out of my head. I recently recorded with an Avalon U5 and loved the tube warmth as well. I just love that smooth tube warmth that you can't get anywhere else.

The Sadowsky is just too much $ on the used market. That has me thinking something like an Aguilar DB359. Anyone have any thoughts on this setup? I have a potential trade offer as well for a DB751, but that seems like more amp then I need. I've also given some thought to a DB359 with a class D pwr amp. Weight is an issue with my bad neck, so SVT size heads are even a possiblity. Then again, I could compromise and possibly the GK MB Fusion would offer a little more tube sound while staying ultra portable.

Assuming the MB Fusion isn't too far out from release, I'd say the wait might be worth the time considering your stated back issues and current satisfaction with GK.

The DB359 is a sweet head. If weight is a concern, I would definitely suggest the Eden WTB300V. I have the earlier version, the E300T. It's a sweet sounding head, and the weight is very manageable.

Ever consider a very tubey hybrid head like a Mesa Walkabout?

Quite open to a hybrid head.

The walkabout is an excellent choice, tubiest hybrid amp ever built.

I would concur with this statement. Not to mention the EQ options make it quite versatile as well. If you go the Scout route you have your an entire rig that is roughly a foot and a half tall.

I'll have to give the Walkabout some serious consideration. If it delivers a smooth tube flavor in such a small box, that is really appealing.
